massive oil leak after rebuild
so I rebuilt my whole engine and got it all back together my first time ever rebuilding an engine and there's a massive oil leak when I first turned it over, all my oil went all over the garage floor, is it possible it's a head gasket leak? I torqued them down to specs for the ARP bolts man this shit is so depressing... any clues would be appreciated

did you put your heads on the right side? you have oil plugs on the back which block the ports the chain guides go to. also did you remember the rear main seal? a leak that bad would would be forgetting something big.

it could be something simple as forgetting to put a oil filter on

Yeah I got new heads but I think they were all plugged up? they looked the same as the old heads where are the exact locations of the oil valley plugs? just on the back of the heads? I think it might be the back driver's side valve cover gasket but would it leak that much from a valve cover gasket? it only leaks under pressure, and it was only like 30 seconds or so... I was thinking about putting in more oil and seeing where it comes from this time because oil is splattered everywhere!

![]() If you bought new patriot heads etc they dont come the LIFTERS, ROCKER ARMS, and OIL GALLEY PLUGS. apparently when they say fully assembled, all components of the valvetrain aren't included.. your cams wont get oil when those are not pluged i believe and yes not plugging the holes will result in massive oil leaks. thats a 4.6 i know but it might be from a crown vic. |

+111 that will cause it to literally pour oil out the back of the valve cover.

the only "aftermarket" head in design is the trick flow head. all other company's rework factory pieces. sooo if its not a trick flow head they are all the same (2v heads that is...)

If you didnt take them out of your old heads or bought new ones they more than likely they are not pluged.

hmm, well the driver's side one looks like it's not plugged outside the head, the passenger side one is underneath the head?? geez what will happen if I don't put that one in if it doesn't have it?
