Flywheel

Hi I have a question for a flywheel. I have a 99 GT and replaced the engine with a 04 GT. But once I accelerate the car starts to shake. The mechanic told me it was the flywheel that was not the right size. I got the flywheel from a junk yard. I dont know what car it came from but the mechanic told me it will fit the car. And it did fit but now the car shakes. If i dont accelerate the engine is so smooth it feels like its off. What size of flywheel do I need for my car. If its a 99 with an 04 engine. The car is manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated. No one can give me a good answer to my question. Thank you for your time.

there is no such thing as wrong size fly wheel, if it fits it fits. yes it may have to be balanced depending on what year car it came out of, some people get vibrations with their drive shaft being spun 180 out.

I had some annoying vibrations with a piece of junk ebay flywheel because the alignment dowel holes didn't line up with the pressure plate so I didn't use them.

Lesson learned, don't cheap on out parts that are a bitch to replace if they cause problems. I replaced mine with a billet frpp flywheel and made sure to use the alignment dowels, no vibration.

i dont have the alignment dowels in mine and it has run fine for years. no vibrations, the one you had probably was not the correct balance for the motor. im still using the oem one

well theres your problem. "i bought a flywheel from a junkyard." come on bro, you can't honestly expect to put a junkyard part on the end of your crankshaft, that spins at all kinds of low and high rpms and not know where the part has been, what the condition is, so on and so on. like my mans said above me, dont cheap out on mechanical shit that will be a bitch to replace if it doesnt work out.

save some cash, buy yourself a beautiful billet flywheel from americanmuscle and i guarantee you will love it.

^why not? a flywheel is a flywheel, and wont matter if its from ford or salvage yard. if its in spec and no physical damage, then its fine to use.

ALL 4.6 are neutral balanced. i have heard horror stories about ebay flywheels with a different balance, but i yet to see any type of proof. as for the vibration, it sounds like a balance or loose part issue.

I agree. Not much can go wrong with a flywheel. I personally would run a flywheel from a salvage yard before using a cheap ebay piece of crap.

Wait ,I did use one from a salvage yard on my swap. Bought one from Oreillys first and it had "made in China" stamped on it so I took it back.

The flywheel from the salvage was in great conditions. With the Ford stamp But the flywheel he removed from my old engine was smaller then the one from the salavge. There was a big change in size. At the yard they told me it was from an 04 mustang. It was next to an 04 engine but not on it. But this is what i get for taking shortcuts. Thank everyone i will replace the flywheel for a new one.

size it either 10.5 or 11" and there all zero balanced , i would seroiusly goto a diffrent mechanic .
You need to describe the issue more , is the lurking shaking when engaging the clucth ? or is it vibrating when in gear and accelerating ?

Yes also in neutral if i press the gas it shakes and wont stop till the RPM's are down. But after that the engine is smooth.

The pilot bearing would have no effect on it in neutral would it?
