This is another debatable topic, but here's a quick run down..Blown applications tend to slam alot of extra air through the valve covers....which in turns slams alot of oil onto your PCV system and possibly into your intake. So when you run a catch can, the PCV system routes air into the catch can and keeps that oil from running into the air intake. You can then either cap off your PCV inlet in your throttle body or you can plumb a line back to he inlet.
Note!!! If you live in a SMOG state...you will not pass visual inspection since it's venting oil into the atmosphere and not into the engine intake. Last edited by fmxona500; December 19th, 2010 at 08:23 PM. |

So let me get this straight.
You take the hoses from both PCV valves and run it to this catch can? Then stick a breather ontop of the catch can. How is that different then just putting 2 breathers?

you could do that, but modular motors are known for smoking thru the breathers.

Running filters on both of your valve covers works, but as the filters become oil soaked from the crank ventilation, it can begin to saturate your engine with dark, gooey oil. This is really prevalent in modular engines pushing higher boost levels. (above 10 psi)
HOWEVER, guys have put 50,000 + miles on their engines without a catch can in place without any problems, so for most cars it's not REALLY necessary. I just don't like the idea of my engine possibly having to burn through any oil that might make it through the PCV valve. Plus, it looks gucci as hell which face it, everyone likes, and only cost me $20 to do. |

Mine was custom made out of aluminum by my mechanic. It is nice and small and bolts nicely to the top bolt of the plenum and is vented.
