I reinstalled them on my new motor, with stage 8 bolts, Percy's Gaskets and bronze RTV at the slip joint with a band clamp. No problems at 3000 miles!
well i got the stage 8 locking bolts, the better gaskets from summit and some copper rtv..but what is the deal with the band clamp, and you only used 1..? there are two slip fits on the headers..also what other type of cleaning up on them did you have to do

I just used one around the two. With the RTV the clamp just compresses the two. Because the gap is so tight on my set the clamp compresses the outsides, while the two inside areas of the slip fit compress against each other. I think the reason it works is that the clamp keeps the slipfit from vibrating, keeping it tight so the RTV can stay sealed. I can't remeber what part number I used, but there was a write up on one of the forums sometime ago. I ordered mine about 5 yrs ago and summit dosen't track that far back. The best way would be to slot the female end of the slip fit with a dremmel, and then use two band clamps, one for each. Currently though mines are not leaking!

interesting. do you think you could get a quick picture? doesn't have to be detailed just a general picture of the slip fit with the clamps around it.

lol, those are right there with the cheap headers, if the trans ever has to come out, the passenger side header HAS to be all but removed.
