Throwing Around Some Ideas

hey guys im normally over in the 5.0 section learning and reading up but I was throwing around the idea of getting a newer sn95 like a 99. Im honestly not going to keep the 4.6 and eventually would change it out but the new body update looks soooo much better. This acourse will be a project so im not expecting to be all nice and fancy when I first get it. Its going to be put in the garage and worked on and changed and wont be used as my DD. So with that being said how much do you think it would cost me to get into a 99 4.6 5spd with prolly higher miles. Im looking for the cheapest gt particular because like I said ill be changing the motor so im really not looking for a low mileage one or nothing. I was thinking what prolly 4 or 5 grand for a high mileage kinda rough ok shape? Does that sound about right? anymore suggestions would be great. Thanks, Zach.

Zach I would hope you could find one for a lot less money, especially if you want one with say a blown engine. I've seen them around NE Florida from 2,000 on up, and some in the shape you're looking for go for as little as 1,000 with a bad engine or tranny.

99Gt thanks for the write back man, and yeah I figured I could find one for that but it can just be hard, luckily not ALOT of people are strictly looking for a 99 or 00 GT like me lol. I guess if I look within a 200 mile area I should def be able to find one id like. Im up here in KY so it can be alil bit of a pain to find good deals, but it depends on what your looking for. So in half way decent shape im looking at acouple grand, if it has a blown engine or tranny, prolly around 1 to 1500?

Honestly I just want the body style of the 99-04, im not going to be keeping the 4.6 mod motor so im looking to be able to get the car for the cheapest I can and have more money left over for the motor build. Im not opposed to getting a newer one but again im not keeping the motor, so it would kinda be a waste to pay a few grand more just to still not use the motor you know. So I just figured if I stick to 99 and 00, that would give me the best chance of finding one for the best price with high miles or w.e you know. But im not opposed to going through newer years in this body style, it was strictly just based on initial purchase price you know.

Mod motors are just as easy to build

maybe its just me but I just feel more comfortable building earlier styles, not the newer mod motors. Plus it just seems like the for the money, id be better building a different motor.

The mod motor just takes a lil more time to put together.. Fore the same money you could build a 352w with more power. But Its fun to make good power with 70 cubes less.

im really wanting to put a 351 in it, now whether itd be easier to go carb or fuel injected swap idk id have to research more on it. But Id like to have a 351 swap especially if I get lucky n find a GT with a broken or high mileage 4.6 for cheap

why cant it be a 3.8 if ur gunna be doing an engine swap? 3.8s are dirt cheap with high mileage. im pretty sure u would need all new mounts and wat not anyways, and would if ur willing to build a project then im sure u would be building a badazz rear end and a good tranny too, correct? so wats the difference in gettin a v6 or the GT if u just want the body

I wasnt sure if the body was slightly different, or if it had different bumpers n side skirts stock, if the tranny n rearend could be used if rebuilt stronger etc. Interior is usually nicer. just thought it be a few less things to deal with ya know.

the gt would be a better platform to start from especially cuz the v6 cars have weal 7.5" rear ends.

yeah even though the money id save my finding a cheap v6, id end up spending back upgrading it back to where a GT's parts are so really itd save me more time just to spend the little extra bit for a used GT.

Willy Mo has a point bc i was thinkin of the samething, why not a 3.8l setup, but when you put it like that it makes sense. Z idk where your located, but if your not opposed to wrecked...cleveland pick a part, Late Model Auto Recyclers (northeast ohio auto salvage) Late Model auto parts in Northern Ohio, is all time selling wrecked sports cars, maybe you could get lucky and come across one for cheap, or keep scanning ebay...there is always one on there for cheap, you just gotta keep looking.

I took the liberty of lookin a few up for you in the 99-00 range...yes im that bored...
