some ?s on reat diff install

Parts are in for my rear end. 31 spline mosers, new diff. my question is since my pinion gear is ok do I have to pull out the pinion gear and shim it also since i am replacing the diff or can i get by with just new shims for my new diff??? What happened was when my axle broke it wallered out the spool housing of my diff.

If you can reuse the shims that held your stock diff in that should get you very close and you might not have to pull the pinion out.

Do you already have gears? If not, you might as well install some while you're in there.

Edit: In either case, you'll have to get the diff in there before you can tell what (if anything) you need to do to your pinion gear.
