Some Questions

Ok to start off I posted this in the electronics thread already and I know it probably belongs there but I'm not getting much response and I was thinking you guys could help me more so here is the original questions,

"First, I just have one little 10" infinity sub and for some reason my lights dim when it hits, I was reading other threads about it but most talk about having bigger systems having this problem? I only have one 10" with a tiny sony amp I think (need to get a better one with a fan it shuts off after 30 minutes) but what could be causing this? Is my alternator really not making enough power for this? Should I do that big 3 or whatever thing, should I get a cap? etc.

Second, Now that I am satisfied with my lows thanks to my sub, I'm looking to getting new speakers just for the rear deck to start off with maybe the doors later on, anyways. I know some people will point me to crutchfield, I got my head unit a Kenwood Excelon from them I really like crutch field but I'm on a tighter budget this time and would like to get the best speaker for the least money ( most bang for my buck type thing) so I've been looking on amazon. Crutchfield says that our cars well mine at least 02 gt fits a 6x8 is that right? Anyone have any ideas on what I should get? I'm thinking a 3-way I want to spend less then 60 any help would be appreciated!"

Now for question 3, kind of a noob question I guess but I'm here to learn! What exactly is a line locker and a detroit locker etc and a spline 31 or whatever?

4. I'm thinking of gettings stripes for my car stickers not paint, what color do you guys think? I'm thinking white, and also I might get some inserts for the bumper should i do vinyl or chrome or stainless steel etc.

Sorry for the extremely long post guys but any help would be much, much appreciated

1st:Are all your connections tight and hooked up in the right place?
4th: Dont get the stickers on the stripes IMO and get black bumper inserts

is the constant to your amp runing straight from the battery or somewhere else in the car? What gauge is your constant? Are you running an inline fuse?
6x8 is the correct size, I think rockford or pioneer make the best mids, 3 ways are nice, 4ways really scream if you have a nice crossover (or one built into the amp)... Crutchfield is expensive as hell, you'd be better off going to best buy, but I've bought allot of speakers off ebay (new from a repatuble seller) and haven't had any problems..

White stripes would look sweet or maybe a dark red... Black is played out, inserts for your bumper depend on what color your stripes are.. you could match your stripes and leave the letters inside the stripes empty, that always looks cool!!

What size amp are you using with that sub? Something is either drawing more amperage away from the alternator then it can supply or your alternator is to weak too keep up and needs replaced. A line lock alows you to add braking force too the front brakes only to allow easier burnouts and keeps from roasting your rear brakes in the process. A detroit locker goes into your differential and helps too equalize the power going to both rear tires do you won't be doing a one wheel peel. A 31 spline is referring to your rear axles. Our stock 8.8 rearends have 28 spline axles so as the power level of your car increases upgrading the rear axles too the 31splines will make the rearend stronger and be able too put more power to the ground without the axles breaking as easy. The 31 spline axles are bigger. As for the vinyl its a personal preference but I would recommend you getting black.

Wow thank you already guys I got 1 answer in 2 days on the electronics thread, ok 1st, it's a 6 guage there is a fuse in it, it is going straight to my amp from the battery away from other wires as well. My amp is a shitty little sony that I want to replace when I get money because it over heats in like 25 minutes, I dont even remember what it's called or anything but I think keyword think haha that it's like 300 x 2 maybe? it's nothing big at all so it shouldn't be sucking a large amount of power... It kind of stopped dimming the lights last night but I want to be completly sure it won't happen anymore.

So everyone so far agrees on black bumper inserts I was kind of thinking that since I seem to have a red and black thing going on with my car already anyways. But I do kind of want white stripes I feel like it would go good with the red... but then it would look stupid with the black inserts hmm

Thank you very much dales03gt all of that information was really helpful, ok another noob question, alright so I'm young, 18 so I'm not as experienced with cars as most of you probably I've only had my mustang for 5 months maybe? Haha I had a stupid little 4 cylinder corolla before but anyways, I can't burn out... I just can't get my foot to the break fast enough would line lock help that? or do I just need to make my foot faster?

Forgot you mentioned stripes. Not sure which color I would get. The white sounds good and like mentioned above the black is a little played out when looking at cars on this forum but remember how many of those cars you'll see everyday. Yea black is the more common color used for bumper inserts and stripes and I went with black also but i've only seen one car before on the streets with black like mine and he lives 200 miles away from me so its not a big deal. Just get whatever color you like best.

Yeah I wouldn't really care if someone else had the stripes or inserts as me I just want what looks best on my car lol. Well at least I know it's between black and white, also reflective inserts or no? are those too flashy?

A line lock would definately help with doing burnouts but you don't need one to get the job done. Try this technique. It works better with wet tires but will be ok with dry tires also. Rev the motor up to around four thousand rpms and dump the clutch. When you feel the tires break traction slowly start pushing in the brake pedal while keeping your right foot on the gas. Keep pushing the brake in till your car comes to a stop. Make sure the tires are still spinning once your stopped or you can kiss your clutch goodbye. Another trick is heel toeing. This is trickier to do but makes you look like a pro driver when accomplished. Use the toes on your right to mash the gas while using the heel of your same foot to hold down the brake. With your left foot holding down the clutch slowly begin revving your motor and begin too release the clutch. This part is tricky cause you need the right amount of throttle and brake pressure to get the rear tires spinning and too hold the car in place. If successful your rear tires should start boiling smoke without the car moving much. It takes a few tries to get right though.

I would pass on the reflective stuff. Also whatever color you decide using use the same for the bumper also.

Thanks man, yeah when I first tried doing burnouts on my own I guess I just tried to do the second thing the heel toe technique but I'd get nervous and then either stall out after I burned out for a few seconds or not get the brake in time and just peel out, maybe I'll try the first technique just a few times haha don't want to completly ruin my tires and ok thanks hmm what do you guys think? Hmm I think I'm leaning towards white stripes, it makes me think of a shelby

Is this a good deal? 2 PAIRS ROCKFORD FOSGATE 6x8" 3-WAY CAR STEREO SPEAKERS - eBay (item 390260240802 end time Jan-06-11 10:48:42 PST) and are the speakers in the door panels the same size as the rear deck?

I was thinking the white would look good also. What color rims do you prefer chrome or black? I think chrome wheels would look better with white stripes and black wheels with black stripes.

Yeah I like the white, but I have black wheels with a chrome ring thing around them and I have no money to get new ones nor do I want to spend money on that lol so I guess I'm stuck with black darn I didn't even think of the white stripes not going with the black wheels...

If I'm understanding that right, its 4 speakers for $129... thats a sweet deal! You might want to email the seller and confirm that though..
I'm not sure if 6x8's will fit all the way around, they arn't the same size in my vert, so you might want to do some searching and confirm that.
You don't have the mach 460 system do you, I've read that you need a special harness for aftermarket speakers but I'm not positive

Yeah I think its 4 3-way rockford fosgates so I'm hoping my speaker size is the same all the way around then I'll just replace all 4 speakers at once and call my audio system done. Does anyone know the speaker size for the doors on a coupe? Off to work for now any answers are much appreciated!

has anyone suggested a nice big capacitor for your system? Through a few farad around it, and it should help keep the lights from dimming.

Yeah I've heard good and bad things about capacitors, they're not that expensive right? But I did hear someone say they're not a complete fix and when the juice empties from the capacitor the lights would dim again but I have been thinking of getting one just to have the extra power stored maybe when I get a more decent amp I will get one thanks

the capacitor will help regardless. The bigger you get the more 'juice' you have in reserve, but the larger ones will take longer to 'charge' between 'beats' in the music. Now I've never run one (never needed one), but I know it will help you out.

Hmm black and black I don't know maybe hmm. So I'm trying to find some pictures on google images of my car color with white stripes and some with black and there are absolutely no pictures of our generation in torch red with stripes except for this one which is how I used to want to do my stripes in stead of just straight across until I saw this picture above...

Anyways, I like the white better but I'm thinking in the end black would go better... my wheels are black, my seats are black well black and charcol I have the cobra seats in the front I don't know what to do lol
