another gear thread, on the fence 3.73's vs 3.55's
thought this would be funny but wondered what kind of top speed people are getting out of 3.55 gears. im sure there is a calculator some where but i have no clue where. i dont go to the track much and i could give a crap about gas mileage, i just feel i would enjoy longer gear time. i have 3.73's in my car now and im not to happy with how short each gear is at wot. i have just ordered my detroit locker, 31 spline axles, and full rear end re build kit. i need to order my gears and the choice between the 3.55's vs 3.73's is slowing me down

I would go with the 3.55s if your not looking to f*** s*** up at the track. Personally, I like hitting high mph in low gears.

im pretty sure 3.73's will make it to the end of the 1/4 in my car. its cutting it close but i run a 26 inch tall tire. and im going to run 275/60/r15 mt et drags. not sure how well they perform since i have yet to use them.

with my 3.90s I am hitting rev limit in 4th right at the 1/4 gate... i think it just depends on what your power level is and tire hight...

making it to the end of the track is important to me but being maxed out is not the top of my list considering i drive it alot on the street. like i said im really wanting more time in gear than shifting every half second. i know i have enough power to make 3.55's fun and it will kick out decent times at the track. im curious how much more top speed i get with 3.55's compaired to my 3.73's. i get 128 mph with 3.73's and a 26 inch tall tire

i cant be mad at you cause you probably have a mental problem, but you have not read any of this thread, unless your joking of course. 4.10 are out of the question. i dont feel like coasting at the end of the track, or running 5th gear. you would know this if your car put down any kind of power other wise i would have just looked up an old post on 4.10's vs 3.73's

Not much of a difference. It's the same debate as 3.90 vs. 4.10. I have 4.10 and do all city driving without an issue so you cant be shifting that much with 3.73's.

There is only a 5% difference between them. But, if that's what keeps you from running out of gear, then that's what you need.

You should still have plenty of room unless you didn't use a handheld tuner to calibrate your gears or tire height. Those tires should be 25.9" tall which by redline will give you ~ 111mph with 4.10's.

I am also running a different tire than stock, and at "my" redline is 115mph (as "my" speedo reads) I could be off a little but I dont push the car past 5.5k as there really isnt any point, I dont make much power up there.

I understnd what you are talking about 1st and second. Honestly I would just run different tires. I wanted 3.55's but everyone talked me into 3.73s and I love them. If you do go 3.55's please let us know how you like them.

here is what i do know on the dyno my car pulls 126-128 4th gear with my tires and 3.73's now im almost sure my car will make it to the end of the quarter mile with 3.73's i think i would be happier with 3.55's.
none the less i have to hurry and make up my mine cause parts are showing up and this came in today

Good luck, i know what it is like when parts start coming, I spent a good month debating in my head between 3.73 and 4.10 so I compromised with the 3.90.
