Jagged tunes kill these motors due to detonation, but even with "safe" tunes heat will build up in the combustion chambers enough to cause detonate once you pack in enough pressure. Its rare that the rods bend or break due to "too much power." The pressure that it takes to make an honest 450rwhp out of these cars on stock heads and cams requires more boost than these stock motors can handle IMO.
On the stock shortblock, you need to be happy with whatever your car puts down at 9-10psi on a safe tune and intercooled. Otherwise you are just rolling the dice. Besides, even at 8psi, you are making enough power to be in the 11a pretty easily with these cars..... |

Yea, good advice. On my car's old motor the guy was running 20psi and putting down 585whp and almost 700ftlbs....For me I DD the car so it is tuned @ 8psi and even a little fat to be safe. Also in the summers Ill run the meth just cuz it hits 110 sometimes....When I have in tuned again, I am going to have an aggressive tune done in the area of 16 psi on 109.
