Modification advice

Hey peoples, so for those of you who know me... ive practically destroyed my old motor (by accident) so now i want some advice...
im still going 4.6 SOHC because its cheaper, easier, and VIN matching

My questions pertain mainly to supercharging this new motor....
I have heard that a relatively low boost charger will work with the stock components so i need to know which one to buy (i would love a kenne bell but i dunno if there is another thats better budgeted for decent power gains)

Will my automatic tranny house this power if i plan on staying under 500RWHP

Will the stock exhaust manifolds be enough if i have an open/low restriction exhaust or will i need long tubes

any other details modifications i may need to know before doing this (im having a reputable shop that specializes in superchargers do this i just dont want them to try and get more money out of me for something i wont really use)

Outlaw motorsports has a brand new custom bent turbo system for our edge cars for 2600.00 bucks. All in. If shawn03gt is still selling his it's a great deal too... General consensus is 450 on stock internals and the tranny should hold up

The turbo from outlaw eliminates exhaust issues. It's a great deal. I saw them in corral in power adders for sale

Turbo is more efficient because it uses the exhaust to spin it not the crank which will result in parasitic loss. But the kenne bell is a beautiful unit. And honestly boost is boost and you are gonna love every minute driving with it. Happy shopping and merry Christmas

Well there alot of guys running alot of different things so you are gonna get alot of different reviews. I love that part about these forums. You learn so much from guys who use all different stuff and tried diffent stuff and set-ups so you learn from their successes and failures. I am sure no matter what you choose it will be an awesome addition to your mustang. I wish I could afford one. I have nitrous but it isn't the same. Having that power right there every time you push the pedal is f%€kin awesome. I am gonna build a turbo 5.4 4v to put in my next one when I give this one to the boy...... Minus the bottle hehehe. Anyways a kenne bell is a great pump. I like that it's right on top with nontubing leaving a clean engine bay. But the procharger has such an awesome whine when it's spinning it will be tough to choose cause they are all great. Shawn03gt is selling his that's still on car for a sweet price with EVERYTHING dude it's a straight bolt in. And he is very knowledgeable when it comes to boost so just pm him and he can give you actual real world numbers. He is usually friendly so just pm him. Happy holidays

Hey man, I found this on another website from December 12th, the contact number for Outlaw Motorsports is 410-474-8581 and ask for Tim.

Here is the link to the forum where I found it:

I understand your reasoning for wanting to stay with a SOHC, but if you need a new motor why not upgrade?
But with a built SOHC and some boost you can see 500hp no problem. but you will need a fordged bottom end for anything over 425rwhp. Anything more on a stock bottom end is asking for another motor,

The previously stated "safe" 450 rwhp number is at the crank not the wheels. General consensus around here is to not go above 400 rwhp on boost alone (manual transmission). That converts to around 360-370 rwhp for automatics on completely stock motors. I know of two motors that blew at 13 psi (approx. 413 rwhp) and two others that blew at 14 psi (approx. 430 rwhp).

On stock internals you should not go above 8-10 psi of boost. Through an automatic that will give you around 335-360 rwhp. The transmission and rest of the drive train should hold up fine as long as you run street tires. Drag radials and slicks on the track are hard on the 28 spline rear end. But automatics are easier on the drive train and take a lot of that risk out.

You really need other supporting mods if you want to go higher. Exhaust, cams, heads, electric water pump, aluminum driveshaft, etc. Resist the temptation to just crank up the boost.

Despite its looks, the stock exhaust is not all that restrictive. It's the cats that are the problem. I not sure what the inspections are like in Oklahoma but you might be able to get away with using an off-road mid pipe. It really frees up the exhaust and has been noted to give you around 10 rwhp. Some say more.

I've been running 8.9 psi for over 3 1/2 years and 65,000 miles without any problems. If you don't get greedy you'll be OK.

i agree 100% if you plan on boosting and you need a new motor spend the extra cheddar on a decent built motor.

thats exactlythe response i was looking for guy... thanks a lot.... im was looking at the kenne bell kits and they have an intercooled twin screw with adjustable 6 9 or 14 pis so i might get that one for the sake of ill have that 14 for later but for now ill likely only run the 6 MAYBE the 9 in the summer... but that helps a lot so thanks
