Which MMR Short Block?

Okay guys I'm new to the engine building deal, but after just picking up my mach, I have decided that I'm going to start seriously saving for some serious mods Im planning on keeping this car forever (seriously). Anyway Im going to be planning a build to start next year.

My eventual plan will be a Twin Turbo kit, but I dont know what Block i should Get MMR has so many options and I'm new to this. I want to shoot for 7-800 hp.
What do you guys think? I was looking at the MMR 5.0 STROKER Street Mod 950? and build from there?

Also I will be driving the car once the motor is built for a while before the TT setup.

Just get a MMR 900. Give me a shout if you want to talk. I can get you nice deal. I was told the stroker doesnt show any gains to justify the extra money in the modulars. Not sure on the truth to it but what i heard around

when dealing with mmr know what you want. for some reason they dont push the parts needed for big hp. yes the mmr 900=950s are both good sbs. but be sure to get upgraded ss piston rings! arp all the way around. just my 2 cents on them

yea i noticed all the options with the purchase

-Coated Pistons (ceramic dome/teflon skirt) $399.99
-MMR Street/Racing Oil Pump (highly recommended) + $199.99
-ARP Headstuds and MMR/Felpro Extreme Duty Headgaskets + $369.99
-ARP Mainstuds (recommended for 600+HP) +169.99
-MMR windage tray and hardware kit (+15HP) + 129.99

I was thinking i should get all of options, again this isnt a motor im gonna build bt shit out of and get rid of. this is something i want to run for as long as possible.

also top end is very important with high boost. i would spend the extra cash on high load valve springs, titanimum retainers, bronz guides, and time serts.

My vote goes to enjoying the car the way it is because its not worth it!!!! Its just a huge money pit and unless u are 45 years old or older, i promise u wont have it till u die (forever). If i could go back, i wouldnt have even bought a stang.

Im saying this because i wish somebody woulda told me!!! Its fun and all but for what??

yea i definitely will do SS, but your right i will have to be very careful. When i get my build list completed, I will post it for all you guys to once over.

also top end is very important with high boost. i would spend the extra cash on high load valve springs, titanimum retainers, bronz guides, and time serts.
That was next question what are most you guys doing as far as the top side? Building up the stock head or what?

also i do want to run the car NA for a while so what are my options?

I see your point Ive had 7 cars since i was 16 all which i put alot of dough in because its my hobby, i think my biggest mistake was not sticking with a car. I always wanted something better or different. In the back of my head though i have always wanted a mustang. So i have one and i want it to be amazing, not just a typical v8 on the street. ya know what im sayin?

800-900 hp is going to require alot of shit. Everything will have to be changed out except interior and body. Lol. And my 543rwhp is already a bitch on the road at times, i hope this will be a track car. My advice, save the money. Do u own a home? If not, the money ur gunna spend would be a nice down payment on a house. Just sayin. Unless u are huge in going to the track.... Leave it stock and keep ur pockets filled!

I see you're from Wheeling, IL. If you want an opinion from some local guys join chicagolandmustang.com. I wouldn't personally buy a assembled motor from MMR. You can get their rotating assembly with whatever extra options you want and then have AES in Elk Grove Village assemble it. AES Racing - Record Setting Horsepower

When it's time to do my motor I will most likely get internals from Mod Max Racing ModMax - 4.6 and 5.4 Modular Experts, and have AES assemble it. AES does nice work and it is always better to have your engine builder close to home.

haha ya ya . I actually have money saved up for a house just seeing where my career takes me before i lock in on something. this build will be slow like i originally stated, im keeping the stock engine in it as i do this and piece it all together.

I want to be able to cruise around the street as well though, as i had stated i will drive this for a year or two NA, should i just build a really strong NA motor just go all out and avoid boost at all? its a tough call I just want it to be a beast.

I have the MMR950, and I can tell you from experience, it will make a difference. I did a pretty radicle N/A build and it put Atleast 100rwhp on the car compared to mild bolt ons. That is with a nice set of cams and heads. Then I have spray on top of that... It's mean.

Now that that is said, I would kinda agree with Baker, in the fact that it is an endless money pit. I've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 28K on my car and it is still not done. There is always something else you are going to want to do to it.

If you get into any hobby deep enough they are all money pits. We do it cause we enjoy it even though we will not make half what we put into these cars if you ever sell.

For me its my get away going out and wrenching on my stang and driving it hard. Breaking parts and having to buy new ones sucks but its part of the game.

We all say we should of done something different like gone f/i over bolt ons or bought a corvette or cobra over our gt. Thats all part of the learning experience.

All I can say is nothing can beat the feeling of finally hitting your goal out at the track making all the years of blood, sweat and tears and of course money worth it.

i totally agree with Nightmare, thats what its all about! Cars are seriously my hobby I have spent tons of $ on cars and I just like transforming them into the picture in my head.

Sounds sweet i want to build it bullet proof so i can choose whatever route at that point!

If you go with mmr, steer clear of their oil pump. If you want to upgrade the oil pump, look into a melling unit. I've heard the mmr oil pump has had it's fair share of failures and taken some motors with it.

You can do that. Just make sure you know what ur compression is cause that will determine what kind of power adder u can use. Mine 11.5:1 is not going to be a blown motor, but nitrous on the other hand is very doable.
