Not true. Cams increase the efficiency of the motor and allow it to move more air without working as hard. 450rwhp on 9psi on a stock motor will last for years with a good tune. 450rwhp on a stock motor with the supercharger trying to stuff 14psi into it is pretty much guaranteed to blow up on the dyno. Look at the few guys on this forum who have recently blew up their motors running 12 and 13psi with over 400rwhp. Lots of boost is what will kill a stock motor, whether it's at 380rwhp or 460rwhp. Many who have cams and 9-10psi have been in the mid 400's for years. I know 4 guys on my local forum that are running from 431-463rwhp with cams. Boost on the cars ranges from 8psi with meth to 10.5psi intercooled. The guy with 463rwhp has been at that power level for 5 years and he beats the piss out of his car at the track every summer.

Unless you have a trans brake the drivetrain will not take as harsh of a beating as launching a stick at 5,000-6,000rpms. The 4r70w is a stout trans. A mid 3000 stall will not hit the rearend as hard as a stick.

fuel systems is the biggest form of motor fail. hell just the swap to winter gas plays alot in added det. running a meth kit can save someone from a bad tank of gas. many people have tunes that leave their car on edge so any slight change is the end.

Yea I totally agree with what you were saying before about making the motor more efficient with cams etc...lol...I was saying in terms of drivetrain with the exception of launching, 450rwhp is the same stress on the rear end parts and axles etc whether your have stick or auto once you're making that power after the launch you're making that power.

I just like to play it safe with the drive train. A lot of guys I know spend the money on their engine and FI setups and tuning but then stop after just gears in the rear end. Months later they're wondering why their tranny is on it way out and their whole driveline whines like a newborn baby lol(keep in mind I'm a manual guy, not very familiar with auto trans so I am only speaking on one side of the issue).

My old Cobra was over 500 whp with the stock T45 and it was always a gamble when romping on the car, and I hated that feeling...now with my setup its much less of a worry.

In terms of what you were saying about the engine though I totally agree.

Thanks for the clarification. I originally though you were talking about the engine, not the drive train. I can now see that you are both correct. It is the stress inside the motor that breaks rods. It is the stress at the axles that breaks rear ends.

i think im leaning towards the cams and the high stall converter to start i would like more power without really pushing the motor to excessive boost
