Help: Would this coil over kit be a good idea?
Would it be a good idea or not to buy a coil over kit for the front only? There is a guy selling an UPR coil over (front only) with Bilstein's for $200. Are UPR's good quality? Is this a good deal? And, would I need anything else to install and use this kit? I currently have an Eibach Pro-Kit.
Here is a picture of said kit:

Alot of people do Coilovers up front and springs in the rear. Espeicially for drag.. I think UPR has good quality. But you might need CC plates for those to work.
Thats my input. wait till someone who actually know more about that shit them me to chime in.

some people put down the quality of upr products while others find no issues. there will be pros and cons for any option. that price isn't bad, I paid 200 just for the front struts to use with my coilovers. I went with upr as well, but they are not installed so I cannot comment yet on how well they work. most peoples gripe about upr coilovers has to do with the rears. I've heard the fronts can be noisy. but at that price I'd give it strong consideration, just make sure the struts don't have a crap ton of miles on them.

One major difference between this kit and say maximum's kit is the lack of collar that clamps onto the strut itself. The upr threads simply sit on the bunny ears that bolt to the spindle where MM's threads actually sit on a collar that clamps just above the ears, distributing the load of the car more evenly thus being less prone to cracking the weld. I've never seen a UPR kit damage the strut personally, but I don't really know a whole lot of guys running them either. I'm only stating what I've been told.
Also, before you just jump in and buy the kit, figure out what lb the springs are and if they are intended for drag racing, autocross/track. Then decide if they are the right springs for your setup. A quality set of 4 bolt CC plates are strongly recommended if not required for coil-overs so the strut tower can take on the weight of the car. Depending how far you want to drop the car, they might be needed for proper alignment as well.

I agree with the above, and to add:
The Bilsteins are actually a smaller diameter than the UPR kit was designed for. It works, but take some electrical tape and do a wrap or two around the strut body to take up the slack under the coilover sleeve or it'll rattle like no tomorrow.

I have UPRs coilovers, I think they are decent quality, been running them on my daily for about a year now, with some autocross events throughout the year, they work fine, have them accompanied with uprs four bolt cc plates. Which reminds me, if decide to get them, I would recommend four bolt cc plates made from steel, not aluminum. Aluminum cc plates aren’t as strong enough, to support the weight of the car. When you switch to a coilover setup the weight of the car is resting on the cc plates.
Overall im pretty happy with upr |
