converting 4.6 to 5.0

how would i go about converting my 2001 4.6 into a 5.0 is all thats required is changing with a 5.0 short or long block also would it be better to take the entire motor out of a 89-93 5.0 and putting in the 2001.

and finally if i did the above swapping motors would the t3650 bolt up to it

You will have to get a K-member from a 94-95 GT or Cobra! You will also need the computer harness from the old motor and make sure you dont get an 88 or older motor, because they still have speed density on them and not MAF! And on the tranny I have no clue! I am clueless when it comes to trannies!

Get a 3.75 inch Stroker Kit for your 4.6.... that will give you 5.0L of displacement if that's what your looking for.... probably your best route.

Well I read somewhere it wouldnt pass..... Didnt know if it was fact or fiction. You would probably have change the comp.....right... I looked into this a while ago when Ford came out with the new 302 Boss engine you can buy threw them.... I investigated a bit and then was looking at other things. There was a lot of talk about not passing emissions. I stopped there......

well if it isn't going to pass emissions then i will just forget it.

my engine is getting old with over 110,000 miles on it. when the motor goes out i want to either swap it out or rebuild it. the thing is my car does not see any track time. i just really love this car and do not like the new mustangs or the direction they r headed.

what do ya'll think about dropping a mach 1 engine or maybe 2001 cobra engine in it. i have looked at the 03-04 cobra engine but those r just way too expensive plus they r supercharged and here in texas as i imagine everywhere in the country gas prices r sky rocketing.

thanks for your help

yeah you could pick up a cobra or mach 1 motor (make sure if it was out of a mach 1 that the car was a manual because the automatics did not come forged) and be very happy with it. the 03-04 4v 4.6 was probably the best motor ever put in a mustang.

the only part in the mach motors thats forged is the crank and that was in the manuals. and thats not the weakest part of these motors. i would just keep it simple and get a gt motor and if you want some more power get some new heads and cams

well, they are the same block, so all you would need was the motor and wiring harness, and I think the flywheels are different, so you would need to check on that. Lots of people do this swap, so it would be pretty easy to find help doing it.

that one on eBay looks pretty nice.... all you'd have to do was buy a KB supercharger to put on it and you could easily make 600 rwhp.

-oh and its SOHC (single over head cam) and DOHC (dual over head cam), meaning that the sohc motor has 2 valves per cylinder and the dohc motor has 4 valves per cylinder.

yes, that one on eBay is forged. some of the best stuff you can get. that motor is good for BIG hp, and you can easily make over 500 hp with simple bolt ons. also, if you didn't know, the cobra crankshaft has a center counterweight on it that allows it to spin at very high rpms (i wouldn't try this on my quote, but i read that the stock crankshaft and timing components on that cobra 4.6 are good for just over 9000 rpm!!! it truly is an awesome motor, and if you are seriously thinking about it.... that one were talking about seems like a really good deal.

it doesn't matter.... anyone who wants a badass cobra motor gets rid of that blower anyways.... simply putting a KB on that w/o doing anything else will give close to 600 hp.
