Need Your Opinion

I have an 01 gt with a stock auto transmission with 2200 stall and jmod. For one reason or another i lost over drive and i have no idea why so i was hoping someone on here may know the problem. The people i have talked to work on transmissions and say it sounds like i'm starting to lose the transmission....IDK i have no clue. I hate an automatic because i had a 5 speed before this car and loved being able to put in whatever gear i want and its more fun IMO so how hard would it really be to swap out an auto for a manual is the real question?

Hey man welcome to MM, remember to do some searching before starting a new thread.. Check out the Stickys on the top of the thread list, I don't know anything about manual swaps but this was in the How to Center...
manual swap how to

There are a whole bunch of auto guys on here "Casper gt" always has allot of good info search for some threads with his comments.. He doesn't like J-mods though

Bullitt5339 seems like hes been working on autos for years and swears by J-mods so he might be a little more help for you particular set up...

Good luck

does your speedo still work? If the speedo quit at the same time , that ususally means your speed sensor in the tranny took a dump.

first I'd find out exactly is done to the car & what it's doing now to make you think you have a trans problem.

the reason I say that is because these cars come stock with a 2400 stall converter so someone was in there that didn't know what they were doing if it has a 2200 stall converter in there now.

as to hating on the auto, try driving a car with a properly built one before you give up on them.

Overdrive band probably took a poop. How many miles on the car?

I agree. Low probability it's the OD servo.

The auto to 5/6 speed swap is fairly easy. I just went through this and a $45 5 speed harness (tousley ford) is the easy way to go for wiring. As long as you don't have longtubes (especially bbk) changing a transmission is easy.

And there is 73k on the car, motor, etc. Is it more likely that 410rwhp is a little to much for my tranny being that it may need to be built up a bit?

410 is nothing for a 4r70w, but it could just be getting old/worn.

Thanks casper i've just never looked into what the 4r70w can hold. And 86er at lower rpms it very very slightly wants to grip but anymore pressure on the gas and its just like nothing is there at all. And i'm s/c fed idk how to put performance parts under my post lol

did you check the fluid level?

as far as your mods, go to the user cp near the top of the page & click on edit garage, then put in your info.
