Tires

I have decided to get: Continental ExtremeContact DWS

Over the: Hankook VENTUS V4 es H105

The price difference about $50 in total price including shipping.

All I've heard is really good things about the DWS. It seems everyone wants them since they get really long tread life, excellent wet, dry, and snow ratings and wear. Plus they have a Z speed rating.

They have become so popular that everywhere I check online they are sold out. Hankooks seem very easy to get and are always in stock, plus they are cheap.

Tire shops local to where I live want some crazy $220+++++ per tire for a Continental ExtremeContact DWS which is absolutely rape when I get all four for $531-548 (depends on site) then put on for like $20-$50 (depending if I go to Wal-mart which is $20 or a local tire shop)

Has anyone ordered tires from tire-easy.com?

Just because I am probably end up ordering from them since they are the only site that has them at a good price with a reasonable shipping price that is $18 in overall price than discount tiredirect that has free shipping.

Discounttiredirect.com is out of them until the end of febuary, then all the other cheap tire sites are all on backorder which will take for ever.

What kind of driving do you do?

This should be a major part in your consideration of new tires. Of the two, I see the VENTUS V4 es H105 as providing better grip, but wear out a bit sooner. Maybe 60K miles from the DWS and 50K from the VENTUS V4 es H105

Most of the time I drive normal, but what is normal?

I tend to exceed the speed limit 5-10mph over, +++more depending on the driving situation and how I am feeling haha. I am sure everyone has that type of moment, some more than others. I just have a short temper when it comes to people tailgating me, going way slow or fluctuating the speed which is often... though I try to stay sane, but when I run into more than one idiot...haha

I don't do burnouts or donuts.

I drive in the left lane the majority of the time.

I drive in town/city,highway/state rds, and backroads, basically everything.

No, I don't, but either tire will suit your needs just fine

Jazzer

PS. my determinations were based on tread pattern and UTQG ratings of the different tires. I also happen to have written a guide on Choosing a new tire

I have the continentals and I have had some bad experiences with them. In bitter cold i haveblew sidewalls on them 4 times already only owned them since march 09. Get the road hazard protection you will thank me. My newest set I have just over 30k on em and there balding bad. These are my front tires too. I have my car aligned every 6 months so it's not due to that. Plus they are wearing evenly so I know it's just due to normal wear. also they have dry rotted a little already and don't hold air to well anymore. I'm not happy with these tires as compared to the pirelli I used to own.

I don't know why you had bad luck with Continental tires. Which tire were you running? During Tire Rack's winter tests in the Artic circle, the ExtremeContact DWS proved themselves to be head and shoulders above the competition in snow traction. Customer surveys have rated them as superior (the highest rating) in most categories including dry traction with almost 4,000,000 miles being reported.

See for yourself: Continental ExtremeContact DWS

I had really good luck with the Continental ExtremeContact Ultra High Performance All Season tires. I replaced them with some Sumitomos that came on the wheels. I hated those tires. That's why I bought the new Continental ExtremeContact DWS to replace the Sumitomos. I've had no problem with them and would recommend them to anyone who need an all season tire that out performs a lot of the high performance summer tires in dry traction and corner stability.

I have the dws extreme contact. I will agree they handle great no road noise fantastic in the snow, but dude I swear I had four side wall blow outs. All when it was like 5* out. You know much it sucks changing a tire in 5* hahah. And I am just about at 30k on these tires and I mean they are balding bad already. Idc because they have 50k warranty. It might be because I buy them online at discount tire direct and they could have sat for a long while before being sold but I have had less than stellar luck with them. I personally prefer the pirelli I had before these.

My personal favorite tires so far are the Nitto Invo. But for OP's driving habits, pretty much any tire will suffice lol

Yes and no. Yes they can fit, but they're going to look REALLY silly, not to mention slightly unsafe.

I've ordered from tires-easy.com, discounttiredirect.com, and tirerack.com...no problems with any of them.

They are not unsafe. A 275/40-17 tire can be run on 9-11" wheels. 9 is the minimum which most people use but they work fine on 10.5" wheels. The 275 tire is still 6% wider than the 10.5" wheel. I'm running 275/40-17 ExtremeContact DWS on my 10.5" rear wheels and 245/45-17s on my front 9' wheels.

I'd like to see pictures as well. I ran 275/35/18 on a 10" wheel and it looked stretched. A 275/40/17 tire will fit on a wheel that's up to 11", but it is meant for a 9.5" wheel.

Do you have any pictures of the tires on your car? I want to see what I will be expecting, though I just have stock 17 bullitt rims.

No pictures. I agree that they look a bit stretched. I think a 275/35/18 would look even more stretched because of the short sidewall. And yes, they would look better on a 9" wheel but they don't make 315/35/17 all season tires. If you're running a 10.5" wheel and you need all seasons, this is the combo you live with. As I type this I can look out the window and see 5-6" of snow. 315/35/17 summer tires would not be very good on a day like this.

I have since bought an extra pair of 9" wheels. In the spring I intend to put the 275s on them. I'll save my 10.5" wheels for summer drag radials.

I think there's may be a design flaw in our cars. My front tires do OK but my back tires wear out pretty quick. I wonder why?
