a bypass valve is used when you are setting up your supercharger with a "draw through" setup. In that case, air is pulled over the MAF, accounded for, then compressed and sent to the engine (through your inter-cooler and piping). Because the bypass valve is after the MAF, the air that it "discharges" need to be recycled so that the computer doesnt think the car has more air then it really does.

If you switch to a draw through setup, by placing the MAF after the blower (usually on the pip that leads to the Throttle body), you are allowed to replace that "bypass" valve with a "Blow off" valve because there is no need to recirculate the air, because the MAF hasn't seen it yet. This is the only way you can get a BOV to work for your system. The MAF has to be physically after the BOV.

THE BOV HAS GOT TO GO ON HTE PIPE BETWEEN THE BLOWER AND THE INTERCOOLER. If not, you will get blower surge and will ultimately ruin your blower.

Just trust me on all this....

Oh, and technically there is no difference between a bypass and a blow-off valve. The only difference is that a bypass valve has a fitting on it so that you can connect a tube to recirculate the air back into the system. I use my "bypass" valve as a blow-off valve by just venting it to atmosphere.

If you're running the stock shortblock, keep in mind that you want to keep the rwhp around 400 at maximum if you want your engine to live a long life. I thought I was "safe" at 415rwhp, being that I didn't really abuse the car more than run it down the strip (no prolonged boost on the street, long periods of cool-down between pulls, added race gas, etc. etc.). The thing is, in really good air (cold and dry), my car was probably making alot more power than that 415 on the dyno.

... so, a 3.6 inch pulley would probably be good and safe on the stock shortblock, with a good safe tune of course.

DAmn!! Brenspeed now tells me that they won't install any intercooled kit for me with an aftermarket I/C. I would have to purchase the air-air from paxton or the charge cooler from Vortech in order for them to do the install for me because any other I/C is unreliable in there eyes. That's some bullshit! Only an extra 2K right? Well that's a shit ton more and puts this project way outta my budget. I wonder if they're is any other shop around my area that could help me out...............

How competent are you with tools? Most people can do a full supercharger install, including fuel pump, injectors, and intercooler in a days work. You could probably have it done in a weekend if you're drinking heavy.

Minus the tune, a S/C install is really a bolt on installation in my opinion.

Who are you having tune the car?

Oh, I'd really recommend looking into Treadstone Inc. intercoolers. They are incredibly more efficient than CXracing ones.

Just do the install yourself. I did mine with the help of a buddy and it went fine. It was a great learning experience and you also get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Think I'll save up a lil more money and get a KB 2.1L. Prolly be more practical for a DD, since I'll get full boost by 2k. And a shit ton of torque.

Forget Brenspeed then. Call ProCharger at 913-338-2886. You won't have to worry about whether the intercooler is the right one or not, or whether you have the right size pulley, or whether you need a "draw through" or "blow through" system. They do all the work for you. All of their kits are intercooled, blow through systems. If you don't change the pulley they send with the kit you can get a three year warranty. They will also tell you the approved vendor in your area.

ProCharger has one of the friendlist tech support teams I've called and they stand by their warranty. I shredded a fan belt and damanged the front seal of my P-1SC with about 60,000 miles on it. I had to pay for the front seal (my fault) but they found the main seal leaking a little and replaced it for free. Total repair cost was $140.

I'm handy with tools but I'd be doing the install by myself, w/o the help of any friends. If I had a helping hand it might be ok but I don't think I should risk it on my own... And yeah I love the satisfaction of doing things myself and it'd be nice on my wallet to save 1000 bucks! IDK...
