Question

Saving car memory while changing to a red top

Hey guys I just picked up my red top battery, my question is, I have to not let the memory go (get disconnected) cause I have a remote start and alarm and a whole bunch of other stuff I do not want to re set up. My q is this.

If I get another car near by, run jumper cables to the ground (block or where ever is the first place the ground goes off the battery) and hook the other positive to the little post off the distribution box. Will this preserve my settings long enough for me to install the red top, then disconnect?

Sounds logical to me, anyone else do this differently. I looked at all the local autoparts stores for the car memory saver and all they had was ones that pluged into a lighter from another car and running into the OBD2 port on mine, however this will not save my car alarm and remote start, so it will not work for me.... Any other ideas other than the jumper cable set up I had come up with, I know it will be dangerous as fu*k but I see no other option....

I've never had any problems with disconnecting my battery, hell all the instructions tell you to disconnect the negative cable when you install a new part or do some maintenance.

I just replaced my battery last week and I didn't have any issues with my alarm. I live in Florida so I don't need a remote starter.

+1. My Viper will remember it's current state and configuration when you disconnect the battery

Well, I am assuming that it will take a bit of time considering that I have to figure out a way to hold it down, It came with a wedge piece and 2 other plastic "things"... So maybe just starting it isnt such a good idea.

I saw this

GRC Performance

I was going to get this but I tried to call on friday and got no answer, and have never heard about them so I didnt know if this was a safe place or not....

Plus it does not say if it is for 99-04....

Dude.. just do what he said and get the new battery in. You can always manipulate the battery after it has been connected as far as tie downs go. To be honest I doubt you even need them honestly unless you are pulling G's or going off road. The battery will stay put with normal driving without tie downs. Not that it is not a good idea to not have them.

1. Remove all tie downs/wedges etc from old battery.
2. Start car.
3. Remove terminals and remove old battery.
4. Place new battery in location and hook up terminals.
5. Turn off car.
6. Figure out how to secure red top.
7. Secure red top.
8. Stand back, cross your arms, tilt your head back and make a Jersey Shore kissy face smirk while saying FUCK YEAH!
