car dies when coming to a stop

it dies when i an stopping under breaking...it will happen in neutral or when its in gear if i am breaking hard enough..i also heard the idle the other day bouncing around a bit so i am going to clean the iac right now...i have heard of this problem happening to other people before but i never heard what it actually was? ill let u know what happens after i clean the iac...

i have to slow shift 3rd cause my synchro is bad so under slightly heavier breaking and d/sing into 3rd it dies alot if that helps

There are three things that can cause an engine to die. No Fuel, No Spark, No Air. So do your basic checks like spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter. Cleaning the IAC is probably where I would start too.

^ excessive load on the motor could make it die as well. BUt clean the IAC, and teh MAF (with MAF cleaner) and see if that helps.

Does you lights dim or radio turn off suddenly when coming to a stop? Just a thought because it could be a bad alternator not fully charging your battery. That happened to me a while back. I recharged the battery and over the course of a month it was dead again and I found out it was the alternator. Sometimes my lights would just dim or radio would power off but the car would die coming to a stop as soon as the rpm's dropped to idle.

Can't forget vacuum/exhaust leaks. That's how mine was when I bought it. You'd brake or slow it down and you'd just watch as your tach would drop until it sputtered and died, unless you rev'd it.

well it runs fine otherwise so i dont think spark plugs..fuel filter was just changed and it has a k&n filter...and this doesnt happen all the time if it makes any difference...i could be dosnwishifting around a turn at like 30mph into 3rd gear and it would die if i am braking i guess because i have to push it into 3rd so slowly...

More than likely the IAC is either dirty or bad....but could also be a faulty TPS...

Did it die every time or at odd times?

I had the same problem, cleaned my Maf, fixed it temporarily but it turned out to be my 5th cylinder coil. If it comes back, hopefully it'll throw a code.

Good, looks like you've found the culprit...I would keep an eye on it though, cause even after cleaning it could go bad on ya....glad you got it taken care of though...
