Shift kit

I want to get a shift kit for my 2003 Gt since im doing more performance with it. It's an automatic. I was wondering what one to get and what kind to get? And if I needed to get anything else with it?

You'd probably get more out of a different stall, or just having the shift points re-set with a tuner program.

Then again, I've got three pedals so I'm not an expert on auto trans..

you might be happy with a tuner to adjust your shift points.. thats what i did and liked it much firmer and faster shifts

I highly recommend a shift kit. If installed correctly there is no downside as long as you don't mind a hard shift.

I installed a trango shiftkit in my car because it comes with a pressure relief valve.

None of the gaskets that came with the kit lined up correctly with my valve body though so I just used OEM gaskets. The kit I used was a little dated though. I'd pick up a set from ford before you tackle the job incase you need them. Worse case is you have to take them back.

A good set of c-clip pliars helped. (I think that's what they're called)

A camera...seriously...I took pictures before I touched anything to make sure I knew where it all went when I put it back.

Edit: I then used my tuner to fine tune shift pressures after installing the shift kit. The tuner can increase line pressures to improve shfits, but the shiftkit itself allows for higher flow characteristics in the valve body.

I just installed a transgo hd2 and I've got to say I'm loving it. Install wasn't too hard but shifts def are firmer faster and all around much more precise. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Not trying to be a jerk, just a stock bottom end and a shift kit have nothing to do with each other. I don't know who gave you that impression, but you might want to tell them to check their blinker fluid the next time you see them. LOL

You can definitely benefit from modifying line pressure, fine tuning shift-points, and or a nice shift kit even if you are running the stock engine. The automatic transmission has an entirely separate set of needs than does an engine.

mannn you got the impression i got my panties in a twist? I dont care lol just i hate saying what i think might help and the tech guri's caressing my butthole for comments after. not that im butt sore just know im not all to auto savy beyond your basic repair job

but honestly i said that comment because i think of the big picture. if i was this guy, with an auto GT id look into the rear end as well, and wait to get everything done at the same time. because eventually i would want gears, maybe some different spine axels depending on my use of the car.

i just look at the big picture. got my ass raped a couple months ago when i argued back you could just throw a turbo on a car, apparently you can. my stance was to have a nice, durable running machine you had to beef up the internals, making tune and injectors but i just gave up lol i over analyze so oh well thats what i would do

A couple of things you can do here:

a. JMOD, disadvantage, time, finding someone to do it correctly.
b. Buy another valvebody with shift kit, several companies do this. Since the valvebody will have to be removed to install the shift kit, you might as well change to a new one. Disadvantage, cost more.
c. Stall and valve body or jmod. Disadvantages, cost alot more and lose a touch of gas mileage. Advantage, you get the most out of it. If you decide to do the stall, upgrade your trans cooler. Its not a requirement, but it is recommended.
d. Manual swap

Not to add another thing to this, but you may also consider an aluminum drive shaft. It helps, a bit.
