Tuning

I know that the handheld tuners do not give a lot of options for tuning but what is the best thing I could do on a Diablosport tuner? Advance timing how much? Richen or lean out the fuel, how much? Just a basic run down of the settings for the best performing 93 octane tune would be great.

My advice is not to mess with it. Just load the performance tune and use it as is.

the tuners are really meant to be used as a means to transfer a tune done on a computer into your ecu. Outside of the canned tunes built in, i don't think you can really effectively change much.

From what I've read, if you buy an SCT tuner, VMP racing sells their proracer software which gives you full access to all parameters that can be changed on a tune on a laptop. The tune can then be uploaded into your tuner and transfered into the car. Not sure if Diablo offers the same thing.

The parameters you can adjust almost make no difference at all with the diablo for some reason, I have had a few cars on the dyno and the customers wanted to play with that stuff and there was little to no power increase.

If you're running high quality 93 octane, you can load the 93 octane tune and advance the timing almost all the way for a few more horses (that's directly from diablosport). If you do so, just make sure to listen to make sure there's no engine knock.

And if you do get knock toluene is 115 octane and is 10 bucks a gallon at the home depot. Rocket fuel. I advance the timing as far as I can and add 1/2 a gallon of toluene in half a tank of gas and that thing turns my 2v into a rocket

Lol from an engineering standpoint, bumping the octane rating of your fuel by a couple of points is a nice difference. The thing I'd be concerned about though is the toluene eating away at the fuel lines or even wearing out the fuel pump.

If you tune your car to take advantage of the bump in octane, it can be worth it.....but not just for a bump in octane. If you don't add timing for the extra octane, you can actually make less power

Yup absolutely , higher octane fuel is more resistant to ignition, which actually hinders the combustion process in an engine if it's significantly higher than the recommended spec. I'm always having to explain this to people who run 93 lol

That is correct.

You can get SCT pro racer package software for $350 plus you need a hand held tuner. You get a base tune from VMP or whoever you purchase from. Plus you have the same software that your tuner has just in case you want or need to make a change. There are tuning books and a DVD out there in case you want to learn how to tune properly (lasorta DVD, SCT basics of tuning, Greg Banish books)

I highly recommend the pro racer package.

Advancing timing only makes more power until a point. Either power starts to drop or you detonate as you advance the timing to much. Advanced timing required higher octane. For racing purposes you can mix 93 and 110+ race fuel.

Regarding the OP, load the 93 octane tune and leave it alone. You should not need to adjust anything. Please do not blindly adjust a/f or timing without dataloging. You will need to know what your current timing and a/f is before making any adjustments.

FYI, Pro Racer does not give you full access to all the parameters unless you have "calibrator" level access to the software. Which means you have to be trained by SCT. But if you buy a tune from VMP there isn't a lot you are going to need to adjust anyway. Justin knows his stuff.

Yes that is true. These days SCT gives you everything a 99-04 GT will ever need in Advantage III. I have yet to need anything more.
