For $300, it would probably be worth it if you have not been actively planning on swapping your heads already, or are tight on cash (aren't we all).

Your sig implys the motor is out and being worked on. If that's true and you can easily do the swap yourself it sounds like a great ~$ oppertunity. They may not be worth the $$ when new, but if you decide not to get them let me know.

If you have a head shop look at them for the valve work, they'll let you know if anything is up..

Now you gotta choose the right cams

I say do it.

I think the problems people have with these heads are actually the valve guides arent so good. so if your buying them *planning* on replacing the guides and valves then i think you'll be good.

I bought mine from AM for ~1500 a couple years ago. The guides were shit and had to have a guy go threw both heads. But after that, they've preformed great.

You will need at least valves, a valve job, new guides, and springs/retainers depending on if you can re-use your stock stuff of not. Still may be worth it. I posted in that thread to ask the guy some more specifics.

for reasons that should be obvious, it's a very bad idea to buy parts from a motor that is being parted out because it was ran low on oil.
IMO, keep looking.

yes, definately check the cam bores, if junk got up there and galled them up you will be SOL and have to scrap them or put cam bearings in them and that costs some serious moolah.

Actually I was quoted at $150 a head by John Tymensky of Modular Performance in Wixom, MI to cut down the cam caps and re-bore the journals. Not too bad.

Sounds like you're buying set of cores, because that's all they will be good for in the end.

The point is that unless he gets them basically for free, he could end up spending close to what he would spend on just buying a set assembled and complete.
