if you are in there why not put a full rotating assembly so you can better take advantage of the power adder you choose. you can get a full rotating assembly for not much coin. No sense opening up an engine only to fix part of the weak spots.

first decide if your going to throw boost at the car or run nitrous. flat tops with the valve notched is a great combo for running heads cams and nitrous. for a blower setup i would decide if you want to go with pd blower or centri. pd blowers like lower cr than centri blowers. also there is a big diff on how the piston to bore clearence is gapped for blower cars and nitrous cars. blower cars need looser rings and a larger .003-.0035 piston to wall gap to allow the piston to swell when it heats up.

i just looked over your post again and noticed you want to use the stock rods still. bad idea. both pistons and rods are crap in the 2v's so just a piston swap wont do you any good for making more power

you sound like a guy who is on a budget trying to build a pretty decent powered stang. first let me state again that building a motor is something you want to do once with no regrets. blowing motors always cost more in the end when a motor is not setup correctly. first there is a big diff between nitrous motors and motors built for boost. if your undecided on which power adder you want to go with i would stick with stock compression pistons which is -17 cc pistons. diamond and manley are my top 2 votes, next would be mod max for cost. the shop that is preping your motor is going to ask you what power adder your going to run and it is important you know 100% which way you want to go when your machining is being done. the reason for this is there are diff specs which your motor will be machined to. also it will require the piston rings to be filled diff with boost setups. i would advise again not to re-use your stock rods cause the best pistons and the best machine work will not allow you to push your power levels past what the stock ratings are. you can re-use your stock crank if your trying to save a buck but the thing that makes the stock crank weak is extra stress on the snout from a sc, high rpm's, and really hard launches. the weakness in the stock cast crank is due to its inability to flex unlike steal/forged cranks

this is a great budget set up. you can subtract the crank and re-use your stock one. and get everything you need for a decent rotating assembly for under 1000 dollars. this kit includes rings, bearings, and rod bolts.

for a centri blow setup i would run a -17 cc dish or even better a -18 cc dish. for kb blown car i would run it a little lower with a -19 cc dish

Are you not including the crank for less than $1000? It looked like it was about $1600 to me.

Looks like a good set up though.

So if you can get all the parts you need for a decent price how much would it cost to have everything put in?
