Tires for 18's

I bought myself 18" rims for christmas this year. I got the 18" chrome saleen replicas. Since I'm as cheap as they come (and in college) I didn't want to fork over the extra cash for really wide tires. Hour goes by and they roll out my car and the lip of the rims are sticking out of the tires ....so I drove home (furious at myself) when I got home and took a good look at my car I said f**k this and called the dude back. He said he'd give me half back on the two I wanted to change out. (I swapped the back tires with the front and exchanged the front for some 275s. )

Long story short I'm still dissapointed. 1800 dollars later my car looks like a truck with the gap in the wheelwell. I'm getting some progress springs installed next week. It will drop me about 1.7". My question is what is a good size tire to fill the rest of the gap, get at least 300 rwhp to the ground, and not rub on my fender? The front rims are 18x9 and the back are 18x10.5. Thanks

I would run a 295/35 R18 in the back which is 11.7 inches wide, and a 265/40 R18 in the front which is 10.7 inches wide. Both have an over all diameter of 26.2 inches. But I'm not totally sure if the fit without a little rubbing.

The over all diameter of the 18" combo would be no bigger than the 17", unless you buy an 18" tire that has a big side wall too. You need to lower it. to close the fender gap.

When you go to an 18 you have to use a smaller side wall to match the over all diameter of the old 17"combo, or it will screw up your speedometer. Also if you use a different size side wall on the front than on the back it can screw with your ABS.

Why 18's offers a little better cornering, If the same width tires can be used as the 17", which is not always possible because of room. They also lack in traction from a dead stop compared to an equally wide and tall 17. They will have a harsher ride, compared to 17's also. But the 18's do look good though.

It's a matter of opinion, but I feel the 17" combo is a better all around package. Allowing for a wider tire, improved traction, all at cheaper price.

I just bought some rims myself rears 17x10.5" , fronts 17x9. I will be running some 245/45/17 I already had in the front, and 315/35/17 in back. that I paid 96 a piece for. I have 795 invested in all four rims and tires,

I have already posted these pics once on here, but I will post them again.

My rear tires showed up yesterday!

315/35/17

What do you have now? They are not really expensive at all. 518 after shipping.

I run Goodyear Eagle F1's

Rear:
285/35/18
Front:
275/35/18

No rubbing at all...

With the next set of tires I am going

Rear:
285/35/18 or 295/35/18

Front:
265/35/18 or 255/35/18

Dont go with goodyear eagle f1's they suck balls...

Im going to switch back to my nittos...

Example Size: 285/35ZR/18

285 - Width in millimeters of tire from sidewall to sidewall.

35 - Aspect Ratio - Percentage of tread width that equals the sidewall height.

ZR - Z Speed Rating

18 - Rim diameter in inches.

Does that help ya?
