93 octane over 87, with a tuner?
I just got my tuner a few weeks back. Ive only been running the 87 tune because roads are shitty and I dont need more power or anything to daily drive. My buddy told me I should just run 93 octane because its better for the motor. What do you guys think? Ive been told that without the tune, 93 doesnt make a difference. Is 93 really better for the car or does it just help the environment and add a little power?

No. Running 93 without a tune, is a waste of money. It's actually worse enviromentally to run higher octane, as it doesn't burn completely.

Octane is a formula which expresses a fuel's ability to resist knock. Long scientific explanation short, higher octane, less chance of knock. By switching to higher octane you can run more advanced timing and higher compression, thus higher power.
If you're not near the threshold of knocking, you will gain nothing, except a lighter wallet from running higher octane.

Thanks thats what I figured I'll just run the 93 in the in the summer and 87 in the winter. It wont hurt to keep switching back and forth as long as I use the right gas, right?

I don't see why you would even use 93. Generally if you need 93 octane, you have to use it all the time, because if you used a lower octane rating, you'd suffer extreme detonation, and would have an eight cylinder paperweight real fast.
If you can run 87, you don't need 93. You can run it, it won't do any harm, but it won't do any good. You'll just be pissing away your money.
