Rusty Filler neck with holes? JB weld it!

so i have pictures in the link below.
A few months ago; while going to put gas in,i hear it pouring out and i can smell it really strong. i look under my car, theres gas pouring out of the filler neck,i stop pumping go home, and come on here. Theres really no help as to what to do.

So i took this into my own hands,i call a few junkyards, theres no chance of me getting one for a while and because 200 from the stealership just sucks! so i go to my local Advanced Auto Parts and see what they have, i find JB weld in "Industrial" tubes for 15 bucks, cant go wrong so i buy it.

The upcoming saturday, i finally get to take a good look at it as its out. It's a mess, there appeared to be some epoxy putty wrapped around, which did hold for a while since my car was bought in may and it held till november so who knows how long before i bought it, it was on for; but a crack formed, so i ended up where i was. i crack all the epoxy putty off,and clean up the nice rusty neck with nice big holes with a wire wheel in a drill and wax and grease remover. then i get to work.

i used some aluminum sheet metal and cut out a few pieces a little larger to cover the hole completely.

i then formed the pieces with a ball peened hammer to match the curve of the neck.i mix up some JB weld and set in the the neck and let it start to get tacky then stick the pieces on there and throw more over the new pieces and proceeded to cover the entire neck with the jb weld to make a whole new neck basically.

i let it cure overnight like it says 14 hours.sprayed over it with some black gloss enamel. and tada.it came out pretty nice if you ask me,and here i am a few months later and it is still good.so i have a new filler neck on hand in case it does start leaking again.but i don't see that happening anytime soon.

I just figured id help those out there who are having the same problem as I, because i know this happens to almost everybody's stang. hope this helps someone!!!

and for those in a real short time frame, you can use JB QWIK and get the same gas impermeable results.its a little bit weaker, but the neck doesn't have much stress on it. i would have used the JB QWIK the first time around.

Yankee Ingenuity, in the south we call it something else, I won't say it but I'm sure you guys have probably heard it up north.

I would not want to be relying on that in my car, I would go search some junk yards or pay the stealership price.

Good job repairing it. The aluminum and jb weld should do the trick.

Im not so sure id trust that jb weld for too long. A trick if anyone is interested, jb weld cures quicker with heat, but too much heat will make it runny. Also, you can get quick drying jb weld and its pretty much the same thing.
