Questions about going turbo.

Hey sorry if I missed this in the search but I couldn't find anything that answers my questions.

I'm thinking about ditching the Kenne bell idea and going to a turbo kit. However im undecided on what to go with.

Hellion is out of my price range so that leaves me with 2 options that I know of. Pony down and on3.

So far I'm liking the way on3s kit looks. However Ive heard they have issues but I can't seem to find anything that says what those issues are. I know the master power turbos they sell are hit or miss.

Does anyone have experience installing this kit? Or the ponydown kit. I know i need the qa1 frame kit for the front on the on3 kit.

Are there any other kits available for the 99-04 gt? And of course any opinions , comments and experience are appreciated.

You might not find it on this forum but if you google reviews for the on3 kit there's a million discussions about them. from what i've heard, it's a quality kit for WHAT YOU PAY. It's the cheapest kit on the market, and for a price that low, it isn't half bad.

The tuners in my area are actually impressed with the on3 kit. Most guys upgrade the turbo in the kit tho. My friedn has one for his fox. comes with everything needed if you choose to go that route. Or you can buy a lesser version of the kit (tuner kit).

I've heard that the on3 turbo seems to be the most reliable. Although I don't know how long it would last.

I'm thinking about going to on3 because of the price, complete kit and what seems to be decent quality. I know it won't compare in quality to Hellion but I
Sure it will get me what I want.

I've heard good things about on3, but I don't personally know some1 that has that kit. I hear that the kit is okay (the entry level turbo is ok for low boost), but u may want to upgrade turbos and BOV. other than that i head that it has quality welds and, for a turbo, installs quite easily.

yeah and they have revised the kit a couple times since it has come out. Like the new 2v kit has forward facing headers. And i know the 5.0 kits have had revisions in them as well.
I think its totally a crap shoot when you buy cheap turbos, But most have had good results with the on3 kit.
Take a look at this article from carcraft

Honestly I don't think the on3 is a crap shoot, i think some1 is finally offering a cheaper alternative to the budget builder.. i mean the quality is not that of hellion but not every1 needs that high a quality. For low boost applications on3 works well, and is finally giving these bigger guys some healthy competition to lower prices. hellion has basically had a monopoly on the turbo market for a while now.

Get the Pony down kit. Where the piping goes underneath the K-Member it's close to the center line of the wheels. So as long as your not hill hopping you should be fine even with a lowered car.

I currently have the On3 kit and I ended up redesigning it like the pony down setup. I don't like the way the On3 kit runs in the wheel wells and restricts your turn ratio. You will hit them when you turn to far and dent your piping. Now I heard that On3 is developing a kit that is turning the headers forward.

If you have the knowledge and ability, I would just build your own. It's cheaper and you can design it any way you want. Also, make sure you upgrade the turbo if you order from them. I just got a Master power.

They already built the forward facing header kit

I say this reguarding to ebay turbos and some of the early on3 kit turbos. Some guy s ghave had good luck and some have had bad.

Although i do agree, the on3 kit is definatly giving companies like Hellion, and HP a run for their money.

I'd rather get the tube frame any way. Less weight is fine by me.

Oh just to keep you guys updated. This is what the kinfrom on3 features.

TRACK TIME INFORMATION:

On ~8-9psi I have trapped personally 120.5mph now and the 12.13 pass was @ 119.5. The 60' is killing it but the car is a dead on 11 second car.

DAILY DRIVING INFORMATION:

This has been a daily driven car for over a year and has not seen a day without boost basically. It will be hard to find a better mod for the money to produce anywhere the amount of reliable power. It goes daily stop and go to all destinations, parts runs, deliveries, bank, post office, any sort of errand. The car has gone though 1000's of heat cycles and we also pulled the complete hot side off recently to inspect the welds and to send out for coating. Everything looks great and even better now with the high temp coating option. There is nothing to worry about with running the 304ss, 16 gauge setup. This car is as reliable as it was before the turbo system was bolted on but now has around 220rwhp. You could drive from New York to California with your car and not have to think twice about it. When setup properly, its as reliable as the stock car but now just with double the rear wheel horsepower.
KIT INCLUDES:

HOT SIDE

- Header to turbo (4 pipes total)
- Downpipes (From turbo to catback, includes merge to hook up to your catback: 3 pipes)
- Each pipe coming off the manifolds pre-welded with o2 bungs

***The kit uses your stock manifolds or you can run a shorty header with our kit. Headers are not include nor are they required for the install. You will however need your stock manifolds on the car to get started
COLD SIDE

- Turbo to intercooler
- Intercooler to throttle body
- All hot parts made of 304 Stainless Steel and 16 gauge material
- Cold parts are 304 Stainless Steel 18 Gauge
TURBO KIT ACCESSORIES

- On 3 Performance 70mm, .70ar cold/.68 hot T-4 Flanged (Master Power & Turbonetics Options)
- 3" Core Bar and Plate Front Mount Intercooler (3" inlet and outlet)
- Stainless Steel upper radiator hose (Relocated to clear the turbo)
- 38mm On 3 Performance Wastegate (Black)
- (3) Wastegate springs – 3.6, 5.8, and 8.8psi springs
- 50mm On 3 Performance Blow-off Valve (Black)
- Custom CNC bent Stainless Steel power steering cooler line
- Complete Oil feed kit from block to turbo, includes all brass fittings needed
- Complete Oil drain kit from turbo to oil pan
- All 4ply/5mm Black silicone couplers
- T-bolt clamps
- All Stainless Steel 2 ½" and 3" V-bands needed
- Stainless brackets to support turbo feed and downpipe

I didn't go with Hellion b/c of the price and going under the k frame.

I didn't go with on3 b/c of reviews and how is made.

I am doing a custom kit which is cheaper the Hellion but more then on3.

My custom kit if going thru the k-frame and made out of 16g 304SS with a 3.5in downpipe. I like the custom idea b/c u can use your own sizes and way YOU want to do it. The cold side will be alum which is lighter, cheaper, and doesn't keep the keep in. I will also have A LOT less couplers and more welds so less pipes to blower off!

Probably not. I'm thinking about going mmr 900. The whole engine assembled is less than the strokers internals.
