HELP PIPE INSTALL!!!!!

hey all real quick.... I'm trying to install my prochamber midpipe, and I can't for the life of me get the bottom bolt off on the passenger side bolting the stock midpipe up to the header.

I have tried everything.... I couldn't get it by hand (I have to use like an 8" extension and a universal joint to get to the bolt in the first place), so I tried an impact wrench, and all that did was strip the SHIT out of the bolt.

I've had is soaking in all kinds of stuff.... wd40, industrial ZEP etc.... and the damn thing will not come off... and now it's STRIPPED!

-what do I do???

I know there is probably no way to do this, but is there a way to drill down into it the bolt like when you break the head off a bolt and you have to back it out, with that drill kit, what the hell is tat kit called? but I'm pretty sure it wont work on a bolt that big though......DAMN STEED that sucks.

I tried to use one once, sad to report it didn't work for me.

If you have to use an 8" extension and swivel socket just to get to it, using an E-Z out in confined space like that may be impossible.

Steeda - tuck this bit away for next time. Buy two cans of PB Blaster next time you're in your local parts house. When a project like this comes up hose the crap out of the nuts/bolts to be removed. Let it soak overnight if possible. It really works.

For now, it may be time to drive it to a muffler shop and let them finish the job. They can pop that stripped bolt out with a torch. They may charge you more because you're in a bind and they know it, that can't be helped. But you may very well fight it all weekend and have nothing to show but bloody knuckles.

I'd keep at it until bedtime. If it's still there in the morning I'd be on the phone trying to find someone to fix it.

Good luck with it.

Are you using a 6 pt or 12 pt socket with the impact gun? It took a while for mine to break loose with an impact, but it did. Make sure you have the socket seated on the bolt and give it a shot.

Whatever size socket you were using, get the one the next size smaller. If you can hammer it on you may be able to use it to back it off.

i was using a 6pt socket with the gun.

Thanks for the advice guys... Imma keep trying for a little while and see if it doesn't come out. I'll just spin away with the impact gun until that bolt is nice and round! then i'll take it to a shop.

yeah the bolt size is 5/8, and it's stripped down enough so that that one spins around it with a lot of force, but it's not stripped enough for the 9/16 to fit on there. I guess I'll try and jam it on there.... again, too small to fit a hammer, but i'll try and figure something out.

Try a metric socket... might find one sized between 5/8 and 9/16

Have you tried soaking it with PB Blaster and letting it sit for a little bit with it on it?

Ditto that. That stuff works.

Last time I used it was few weeks ago when I was changing the fuel filter on my wife's car. It wouldn't budge and I was afraid of stripping it. So I hosed it with PB and let it sit 15 minutes and it broke loose no problem.

I soaked mine in PB Blaster and then had to take a 15mm deep well socket and cut about an inch off of it to get it short enough to fit in the space but still long enough to fit over the stud. Came off pretty easy once I got the socket in there and let it soak in PB blaster for about a half hour

I had this problem when attempting my o/r x-pipe install. I had the car up on ramps, so not much room to work with. I got the driver's side unbolted from the header and ended up stripping the nut on the passenger side. I also had problems getting the rear o/2 sensors off.

A friend and I messed with it for 2 hours tyring to get it off, to no avail. I ended up caving in and taking it to a shop to get it done... charged me $60, and the guy had to go buy a tool to get the stripped nut off.

First shop I took it to was a muffler shop, and the idiots told me the x pipe wouldn't fit on (they said 'this won't bolt up to your headers, the flange is different')... idiots.

As much of a pain in the ass as mine were to get off, that actually sounds feasable to me heh

I guess I hadn't oiled it in a while, and I was pounding away with it and then it just wouldn't impact any more.... F**k. I'm going to have to replace the hammering mechanism.

Cars at the shop right now, should be done before lunchtime... I'll let you know how it turns out.
