Check on CL and see if you can find a credible mobile mechanic to do it. Gears aren't that hard to do and it shouldn't take them more than a couple hours to R & R them if they do know what they are doing. I found a real good mechanic off of CL and whenever I need to do something major that I don't feel comfortable doing or don't have the tools, I call him and he get's it done quick. My gear install cost me $120.

I actually found a shop that will do everything for 200 bucks. He claimed on the phone that he had done hundreds upon hundreds of rearends. That he was one of the best around for the best price. He also told me that he backs up his stuff which I would expect...it's a shop. And when I told him I was gonna do more calling around, he said that I'd be hard to find anything better. It was weird. Everywhere else I called wouldn't go below 400 bucks and was up to 600 but this guy was so cheap. Do you think it's safe to go ahead and let him work on my car? I wasn't planning on paying what these other shops want.

if the guy says he will back it up if anything goes wrong i would go with him. when i had my 4.10s done the shop charged me $350 and that included the oil and tax and he also installed more bearings i had him installed a rebuild kit. gears came out awesome no noise at all.

That's kinda what i'm thinking. Do you guys have your speedometers recalibrated or leave them because he has to get one from his buddy from the ford dealership he said and it would be extra which wouldn;t bother me i guess.

your speedo will be off more than a bit I dont remember the exact mph it was off but when I picked mine up after getting the gears done I checked it with the gps and it was way off. No explaining that crap to a cop when you get pulled over. Dont just leave it you want the exact mph you are going to be displayed on your speedo unless you are on sections of the autobahn where that doesnt matter. A handheld tuner would handle the recalibration. Plug and play takes like 50seconds if you have a tuner and a shop Shouldnt charge alot for it being that it takes less than a minute to plug in and change that on the computer.

I never heard of a break in period for gears. They never tell you at the dealership to take it easy and come back in 500 miles for a diff fluid change. I broke mine in with a 1-2nd gear burnout and havent had any problems.

My opinion is that you should drive the car like you did before the gear swap. If they end up whining it's the fault of the installer.

The proper way to break in gears is to just give them a few heat cycles. Is it absolutely necessary? no, you will be fine. The factory figures most people are not going to be beating there car right off the showroom floor and I bet 99% of new car owners give the gears a quite a few heat cycles without knowing they are doing it.

point is just put them in and enjoy. If they fail, it will because they where installed incorrectly not because of any break in issues
