up $hit creek with my intake manifold

Hey guys, need ideas quick. I was installing my new TB/plenum setup today, and as I was bolting the plenum down to the intake manifold, one of the bolts got cross-threaded, and the metal threads that are glued into the plastic manifold came unglued and came out stuck to the bolt. Threads are ruined, otherwise I would just try to epoxy/superglue them back in there. And I can't put my plenum/TB on my car. Was thinking of going to Auto Zone tomorrow and looking for a helicoil that I can loctite/epoxy into the manifold that I can screw into -- that seem like the best plan on action to you? I really don't want to buy a new intake manifold. More than that, I really don't want to have to put it on.

You think JB Weld would work on the plastic? I checked their website, it says it doesn't bond well to polypropylene and polyethylene plastics, but I don't know what our intake manifolds are made out of. Oh man, I hope it would be that easy to just pour some JB Weld in there, let it dry, drill it and screw the bolt into it.

I would get yourself a tap-and-die kit and rethread the hole as it is, w/out the jb weld. then just use a slightly bigger bolt. it will be a lot cleaner and a lot less room for error IMO.

go to walmart look in the hardware section where they keep glue and tape. There is a plastic weld kit. it looks like a double seringe . I swear by it on plastic. Before I got the aluminum cross over intake put on my car, I mixed some of that up and rubbed it into the crack on the intake and the damn intake never leaked another drop! I can get you the nut part that is stuck on your bolt if you need one. I has a spare intake laying around I can get it out of for you.

Update: I JB welded it and it held together. Got the plenum/TB mounted, and when I start it up, it starts fine and idles fine, but when I had my buddy kill the engine, and I was listening with the hood up, there was kind of a faint hissing sound that lasts 1-2 seconds. Is that normal or is that a vacuum leak? I guess I never really listened to my engine with the hood up and had someone cut it off before, so I don't know if that short hiss is normal or not.

Hallelujah, you just made my night man. I was really afraid I was going to have to take the f***ing thing back off again. Well I'll give it a test drive tomorrow and we'll see if I can feel any horsepower difference or not. Thanks to everyone for the help.

By the way, thanks for the offer for the threading out of your old manifold. If I would have needed to go that route, you would have saved me a shit-ton of money.

Told ya JB Weld is the shit. I always took care of the brothers that worked hard to keep there rides running, so they could work. Always gave them a discount, F Auto Zone. I learned a lot from and drank more than a few beers with'em.

So now my next question is: after this install, the idle comes down really slow when I rev it. Anyone know what could be causing that, or is it just normal? Does it have something to do with the IAC? My car idles smooth, and it doesn't try to stall when I put it in gear or anything, the RPMs just come down really slow.

Ahh, I did some looking around on the forums here, and it sounds like this is a common problem with our cars -- the RPMs come down slow so the engine has more time to burn off fuel for emissions reasons. I'm going to look into an IAC restrictor plate, but probably not until I get tuned. It's just annoying you know, I pull up to a stop light, and the RPMs stay up for a couple seconds, it sounds like I don't know how to drive.
