idle question
i've noticed that when i'm in normal stop and go traffic, my idle rpm is really erratic. it doesn't spike, but it does drop to about 500 rpm. the weird thing is, it only happens when i'm running the a/c or the heat. car's not throwing any codes, and i've cleaned the IAC a few times. i've checked for vacuum leaks and haven't found anything. ideas, anyone?

My best guess is that the A/C is putting a strain on your engine. Mine actually revs higher when I have the A/C on or the Heat on! Maybe somebody else will pipe in!

Re: idle question
Its normal, just the engine bogging a little bit from the strain of the A/C pump. |

Its completely normal.. your AC is going to put a strain on the engine.. so its going to pull down your rpms a bit at a stop. No worries.

well, got this one figured out, too. i found out (by browsing through the owner's manual of all things) that if the battery is disconnected, you're supposed to start it and let it run with everything off for a few minutes and then with the a/c on for a few minutes so the computer can "relearn" the proper idle. this turned out to be tied in to the problem i was having where the car wouldn't start. all this over a battery that was going tits up. it needed more time to build enough power to turn the started. old battery out, optima battery in, hopefully no more issues. the gremlin hath been slain.
