Exhaust difference??

What's the difference between Chambered & Straight-Through??? Any difference in sound?? I know they say Chambered sound better with an H-Pipe, and Straight-Trough sound better with an X-Pipe. I just basically wanna know which company's make each exhaust, that way I can better understand what my exhaust will sound like when I choose my set-up. Thanks for any input.

straight threw are no restriction and are like bullet style mufflers. The magnapacks are straight threw. Flow masters are chamber. A H-pipe will give you a much deeper sound and the X will give you a raspier sound! Flowmasters and O/R H sound great on these mod motors!

So basically Straight-Through arn't really street legal then, right??? I would love to get a O/R X/H-pipe when I get one, but my car is my daily driver, and has to be able to pass inspections. And i wouldn't wanna have to keep changing my exhaust everytime I go for inspection.

O well the bassani x with cats is a great choice and the magnapacks! I think that that will still pass, but we will have to ask Neckbonekat! That is what he has!

Do the Chambered & Straight-Through sound different than each other as well, or is one raspy?? Also is there anyway of telling which company's have which when looking for an exhaust set-up (difference in appearence)?? Only because if I hear one that I like, I wanna know if there's a way of telling, that way I get the correct X/H-Pipe, for the exhaust, because I want it too sound good. Thanks.

Yea straight throughs are like tubes where chambers are normally squarish or rectangular! And I really cant tell you on how each sound! All I have heard in person is My O/R H with Flowmaster 40s!

So for company's like Flowmaster, Borla, SLP, Magnaflow, Bassani, Mac, etc..., what would you say are the ones people seem to use more often?? Not trying to sound annoying with all the questions, I just wanna get a take on how the exhaust will sound, because obviously the most popular type is gonna be what iv'e heard in the past. Thanks again.

A lot of people run the BBK long tubes. But like what was said earlier IMO the H pipe sounds the best, it gives the 4.6s a deeper sound.

Macs SLP and flowmaster are used alot on these mustangs! And IMO flowmasters are the best sounding with an H-pipe!

I'll probably get BBK, or JBA shorty's myself only because of ground clearance issues, and being able to pass NY state inspection.

I dont know about emmisoins but I really dont have any issues with clearance with mine...And VA roads suck...You just have to be careful...

Also if you plan on adding a poweradder to your car in the futurethen the longtubes will be well worth just doing now...But I dont know if the longtubes would pass inspection if you ahve a sniffer or want not...Down here in VA we have inspections but it is just on hwo it looks; they dont actually do a sniffer test...

Here in NY they just hook us up to a machine and check everything that way. They just started this last year.

No the sniffer is where they put a prob in the tail pipe and sample the fumes. What you are talking about is the OBD2 test.

^^^^Correct^^^^

I thought you were talking about the sniffer test...

I would think the longtubes should pass the OBD2 test...But I dont know...

Maybe someone from NY can clear it up for us for sure...

Thanks for the mention Matt. :wink

I like my Bassani X with my magnapacks, but I have to admit it isn't as deep as I thought it would be. My friend has magnapacks with the tru-X by magnaflow and his car sounds much deeper than mine, but mine is much louder than his. I think a great set up would be Magnapacks or SLP LM 2 with a H pipe or a prochamber. I'd probably have gone that route if I had it to do over. The only problem with the prochamber is that they don't have the option of coming with cats. Where in upstate NY are you? I'm in Troy up by Albany.

Here is what mine sounds like.

Sounds decent, but I think I want something with a deeper, louder & meaner growl. Any exhuast setups that sound like the old muscle cars (ex:69' Camaro, 69' Charger, 71' Chevelle, & 70's Nova's)??? Or anything that sounds real similar?? Thanks. I'm in the Glensfalls exit 18 area neckbonekat.
