A heads up to the young guys

Hey all, I have been debating putting this up here or not, because I'm really embarrassed and upset about it. Everyone on here knows how much I love my car.....

On Sunday morning, the roads were really wet and I was paying ZERO attention to anything, and I was going way to fast. I was flying down this straight right by my house and at the end of the long straight, the road turns hard to the right and drops down a hill. I realized I was going too fast as I came into the turn and made the mistake of standing on the brakes, then I hit a wet patch. I lost the car completely, and the back end swung around. I was probably going 70-80 mph, i don't really know. Then I over corrected and my back end slammed into the curb on the right side of the road, then I jumped off the curb and slid across the road and SLAMMED into the other curb and smashed into the bank. The car jumped about 4-5 feet in the air and came crashing down on the rear end. I don't really remember what happened from this point on, but the car slammed back and forth and slid down the hill. The rear wheel/brake assy was ripped off and most of my suspension is shot.

I got some serious whip-lash and a good solid head-ache, but other then that I am completely fine. The car is not totaled, but it's about 6K in damages. Hopefully I'll have it back in 3-4 weeks.

I can't tell you how bad and dumb I feel, so I just wanted to put it out there especially to the young mustang drivers on this site. ALWAYS pay attention, and never think you're invincible. The mustang is a powerful car, and if you're not conscious of that all the time, you are going to get hurt. I got lucky, and I don't want to see this happen to anyone else. Ever.

Sorry to hear about it man. I'm just glad your OK.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I was 17... I took out a telephone pole though and totalled the car.

The important thing is you can walk away from it all.

That's a bummer. Glad you are ok!

If nothing else, at least your sharing may spare someone else some pain. For that I thank you.

....and remember... when the insurance company asks... everything was GOLD plated...

Thanks guys, yeah my dad said that a lesson you can walk away from is truly a life-lesson. And believe me, I've learned it.

-and I've made sure that insurance is paying for all my Steeda and after market parts (like a new axle w/3.73 gears instead of the stock 3.27's..... I'm gonna try and push 31 spline mosers if I can). lol. I wasn't sure how it was going to fly, but I think they're going to pay for what I ask for. USAA.... great benefits.

Well the inccident obviously sucks, but it's good to see that you didn't get hurt. Thanks for the heads up too, because even if you are cautious, it doesn't meen everyone else is. Hell one of my buddy's was taking his friends sportbike back to her house last year, and just as he was backing out of his driveway, a woman cut into the wrongside of the road, and nailed him. They found out that she was drunk, and she got a hefty ticket, but that isn't enough if you ask me, because my buddy has a little girl, who could have lost her father. Fortunatly for him he survived, but he still has to live with all kinds of scars, and metal plates in his arms & legs. Sorry about the run on story, I know it wasn't a Mustang involved, but my point is that you should always be cautious of the roads, surroundings, weather, and other drivers etc..., because one wrong move, could meen your life, or even someone elses. And besides that, when your driving, you should always expect the unexpected. Anyway drive safe people & lets enjoy our cars responsibly, just like you would a cold beer. Thanks.

Glad to hear that you're OK, man...

2 years ago, when I was 19, I had an incident involving my car and a ditch. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt, my girlfriend wasn't hurt, my car wasn't hurt (besides a scrape on a side skirt and a scratch on a mirror) and some kind people passing by helped me pull it out without having to deal with cops or anything.

After that, I definitely had a new found respect for the car.

Yeah glad you posted this up here! I know it might be embarrassing and a completely bonehead thing to do it will teach a lesson. I know that I have to respect my car's speed and power! I also am getting into the expiremental mode, and am going to be getting my licence in 7 days! Glad you were okay and I am glad that you are passing this on!!

Matt you better not be posting something like this in a week. Its a lesson that every driver learns eventually with a performance car. I'm just happy to hear that you didn't get seriously hurt. I did it in my first car just 4 days after i got my license... took a turn at about 80 should have been going around 15-20... ran over a lawn and barley missed a tree and garage..
And as far as you getting all of your aftermarket stuff back your lucky cause when my wife recked mine i had to re-buy all my stuff cause they wouldn't cover it.
GOOD LESSON TO LEARN!

Glad to hear ur OK. Tuck this lesson away in your drivers bag of tricks and don't get bit in the ass again. Hey shit happens and the Pony has a tendency to get away from ya once and awhile..Some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you.....

glad to hear your ok bro, sucks about the car, but cars can be replaced, your life cannot, thats what everyone old and young should remember. i am guilty of doing stupid shit like that in my car. more often than not really. This is kinda a reality check for me and for others i hope. God Bless dude.

Matt I know your gonna say you will respect the car and I hope ya do but I know cause Im 28 and I still do stupid shit sometimes. You will try and see what the limits of your car are. But please man do it at a track where they have immediate medical services available. If your on a back road where you think its ok to hotrod cause theres nobody on that street. Remember theres nobody on that street to call you an ambulance if you wreck and get trapped or cant use the cell phone.

Yeah I am going to keep it to the track! I will probably accelerate hard, but nothing stupid! My stang is my pride and joy and the thing I treasure most in my life! If I do anything stupid, my parents are probably going to make me sell it or not let me drive it for a very long time!

Be careful because 'accelerating hard' can get you in more trouble than speeding.

Many Mustangs have a tendancy to be super tail happy, as you will learn eventually.
