The first link is one that can be used for most vehicles. On the left hand side of the screen is "Calculators." The top on is gear/speed. CliffyK uses 97% to adjust for the differences between a loaded tire's diameter (tire with weight) and the shelf tire's diameter. What you need to pay attention to is the revolutions per mile. You change that by changing the tire's diameter. The second link gives specifics about tires such as diameter, revolutions per mile, wheel size, etc.
http://www.paladinmicro.com/pmicro.php Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing Also, top speed isn't limited by rpms. Acceleration stops when horsepower can no longer overcome wind resistence and friction. The second calculator estimate how much horsepower it takes for a particular speed. Remember, this is not a motors peak horsepower. It can be something less if resistence = horsepower before you reach the rpms necessary to achieve peak horsepower. Edit: I don't know why but I had trouble making the links work. They should work now.
