The problem with the "silver dollar" type gap tools is that people tend to use them to open up the gap by prying against the center electrode, which is a no-no. Only use a tool that pulls back on the ground electrode without touching the center electrode.
Does the center material matter or is it the same for all plugs?

Some are more fragile than others, but that really goes for all plugs.

weird... It makes sense though cause the silver dollar is kinda rough on the plugs, What exactly does it do to the plug thats no good? Just wondering cause ive used the silver dollar style gapper more times than i can count with no problems.

Using it to check the gap won't harm anything (though it's not going to be as accurate as a wire-type or feeler gauge). Using it to open the gap by prying against the center electrode is the issue, as it can damage the center electrode. I know that people do it all the time, and old-school copper plugs are relatively robust, but using the proper gap tool or even a pair of needlenose pliers to bend the ground electrode is a better idea.

yeah i use it to pry against the electrode, thats why i was asking what damage it can cause. Never had an issue but ill have to grab a different type of gap tool soon i guess.
