engine will miss and run rough and act the same as a bad coil or plug (or worse). Just had it go out on my Denali dd.

That's a question I'd like to know the answer to also. I've never had one/worked on one that had an issue with the CPS. What are the symptoms???

my buddy has a v6 mustang and had either a bad cam syncro or sensor and it was bad enough to where the engine would lock up and stall the car at idle...it would buck and then want to lock up and cut off.

I've heard most "cam position sensor" problems were in fact alternators going out. Even if at first the alternator checks out at autozone or something, try swapping it with another to see if the problem is fixed.

had a problem with mine once where i thought the sensor was bad. ended up being that the guy before me ran the wiring harness over the egr valve line and it melted the wiring harness and was shorting out the wiring. sensors rarely go out.

When that happened to me it was my broken diodes in my alternator. After wasting $55 to replace the sensor, I just had the alternator rebuilt and it solved the problem just fine. They explained it that when the diodes break, they send out a pulse signal that fucks with that sensor and makes it say it's broken because it doesn't function as it should

Had the exact same problem with mine i went through 3 alt's from carquest and the diodes failed in all three, took it to a elec shop and i got a USA made one from him brand new for like 10 more bucks than a refurbished one from mexico costed me at carquest, and he told me that it creates a magnetic field causing the cam sensor to fail, it did it would start and die and sometimes backfire realllllly bad it sounded like a cannon!!!!

this is why i asked.....

I got some codes that popped up. One was an alternator code and the camshaft position sensor code. I will add... my truck has been sounding weak when it starts for about 3-4 months lately. Crazy that an alternator can make the motor buck arround and even die!

As far as my stang... Now Im wondering if the car isnt doing the same thing! Cause it did the same shit and made some horrible knocking sound. I noticed it one day at a restaurant... drove it home and it quit. Then the last time i drove it, it ran fine, pulled crazy hard through the RPM range and on my way back home it started that knocking shit and then for the rest of the evening it sounded like that and even killed the car one time. As if it locked up! But then it started back up and all. So could both my rides be suffering from the same shit? Do alternators really fuck shit up that bad!?

It sure did for me mine started doing it in the winter, it would start backfire and die and again then it would start, sometimes the battery light wouldn't come on until the motor got warm and the diodes seperated, therefore causing a magnetic field around the cam pos sensor causing it not to know where the actual cam is even located. When i got the new one on it was right back to its old self and haven't had a problem for two years now, ps don't get one from carquest!!!!!!!!!!!!
