Cut outs?

So ive been thinking about doing cut outs for a long time now and have taken a few to look around finally. i found the QTP set up with the down pips and just curious what you guys think of them or cut outs in general on our cars. i personally think it would be awesome if your sitting at a light with your nice rumble some ricer pulls up revs and says "wanna race" you just look over smile and hit the dumps and all of a sudden your car is a F*ing monster and you just see his turn to a *oh shit* look hahah LOVE IT!
also i haven’t been able to really find any vids of our cars with them, anyone have them? also is the loss of back pressure with them a concern for us or will it not really matter?

Thanks guys!

Yes the cutouts will make your car loud as shit, but it will kill bottom end from lack of backpressure, so that ricer you're intimidating might get the jump on you til you get up in the revs

Loud as shit and slow as shit. Not a good combination. You're not going to gain any power by doing it. I personally can't stand seeing slow cars without mufflers. Performance and/or free flowing mufflers don't give enough of a restriction to limit power output. Essentially you're going to have a car that sounds like a ProStock car that can barely outrun a school bus. Terrible idea in my opinion.

so i assume stright pipeing would be about the same? i mean if its not gonna help performance wise i may just do it to give it that old muscle car sound when rolling up to a car show or something.

+1 Absolutely

Old muscle cars like the '70 Chevelle had 454's, the Mopar 426, Fords 429. Those engines are all over 100 cubes more than what we're running. If you run without a muffler it's going to kill your power and sound like shit!

Get some COMP cams then. I've got the 270's and my car thumps at idle... sounds awesome (when it ran, it's blown up right now)

I did the str8 pipe thing on mine a few months after i put on an o/r x and it sounded extremely loud and horrible and the car felt Very sluggish I kept it like that for an hour at the most and was willing to go back to the shop that same day to pay to have my mufflers put back on. It want sound good at all and will slow you down more than a bit.

um. its pushrods that give it the old school muscle car sound... not cubic inches. cant get that same sound out of a fuel injected engine regardless of the size.

and OP, i say do it if you want to. since its something you ca turn on and off you can hear it when you want to and not hear it when u dont want to. itll b loud as FUCK tho, when i did my longtubes we cranked it up in my garage with open headers and me and my buddy had to yell standing side by side to talk to each other

Where exactly did you come up with that information?

If you want it to sound like an old school hot rod unplug the MAF and put glasspacks on it. Pushrods and fuel injection have zero to do with it.

I'm not trying to pick an argument I promise. Fuel injection (computer controlled) allows you to make an engine rather mild at idle when you can't so easily do that with a carb motor, I will agree with that. Pushrods have zero to do with it. Camshaft, compression ratio and the lack of idle mildness are the contributors to the sound you're referring to most likely. That's why I said unplug the MAF so the engine can't quite figure out what's up and glasspacks to sound like the Dukes of Hazard. If I ever get everything assembled for my 4.6 2V carb conversion I'll try to get a vid up of the way it sounds. Won't be a whole lot of difference from injected sound though.
