how long will these headers take?
Just curious what I should expect for install time on my longtubes. I'm assuming 6 hours or so unfortunately lol. I'm planning on dropping the kmember first thing, will i have to remove motor mounts for anything? I have an engine support, air tools, etc. hopefully these flowtechs mount up alright and dont leak

Sqirt some copper rtv around the gaskets. Re-use the stock studs and use oem gaskets and you will have no problems with leaks

If this is your first time dropping the k member I'd be ready for the unexpected, so 6 hrs x2. The motor mounts will have to come off so you can get at the header bolts. I'd also have a 7/16 ratchet wrench and 1/4 drive socket set with extentions and swivels. I had to grind the starter base to get it to fit with my MAC longtubes. Also make sure you have the O2 extensions and install them BEFORE putting the long tubes on, otherwise you'll have to try and get your hand between the block and headers. It isn't hard, just time consuming.

Flowtechs aren't the best fitting headers for our cars and if this is your first time it will take much longer than 6 hours. I decided to have a shop do my longtubes. The ARH's fit perfectly with no clearance problems. Car was ready 6 hours after I dropped it off.

wow shouldn't take any more than six...
definitely connect your o2 extensions before installing the headers as stated. if your trans cooler lines are as close as mine were i'd recommend wrapping a little heat tape around them.

personally I dont drop the K member anymore. If you have a cherry picker to hold the engine up, undo the trans mount, put a jack under it and you have more than enough room. Just remove the engine mounts and you can do them just like that. Thats how I do it

Doing it with the K in is such a pain... Sure dropping the K will take a couple hours, but it saves you from the frustration of trying to get the nuts on the studs with no room.

It took me 40 minutes to drop the k and every thing is RIGHT there. I would never try this without it. But all the old parts are off, headers are bolted up. I had to run to get a plug for the egr, gotta put that on then put the kmember back up. No clearance issues thus far. I dropped the motor about 2 inches tho so hopefully there's no issues when it's up again. I've got 3 hours into this so far and could have it done in an hour if I could get one of my lazy ass friends over to help me with this mobstrosity that they call a kmember lol

No sense in doing more work aka dropping the K when you can do it with just undoing the mounts and supporting the drive train

well it took about 5 hours to get it all done and on. about a half hour of that was spent heating and bending the xpipe because it was about an inch too narrow and i couldn't connect them to the headers. but all in all it wasn't too bad. the headers themselves fit great, no issues with them at all plenty of clearance around the trans, starter, stearing shaft, etc. just their xpipe sucks. it does seem to feel faster now, and also sounds way different, in a good way i think. maybe now i can get that 12.x on motor lol.

Yeah dude dropping the K is the way to go. Good job on the install man, sounds like everything went relatively smooth. I think LT's make the cars sound a lot better. Did you lose any low-end torque?

Nice install. Interesting how different headers have different tube routing paths.

how bad was tigtening the nuts on the passenger side?? i remember on the mac's there was one on the passenger side that was just an absolute pain. i think it was the second one back from the front on the top...had to use a crows foot. couldn't fit a wrench up there.
