New wing
I have a black 2000 Gt and I just bought a mid 01-04 wing. Its grey and I need to paint it. I have no painting experience but if worst comes to worse I just end up in the same place I am. So I wanted to just sand this thing down and paint it flat black. What grit paper should I use? What kind of paint should I use (Im not worried if this comes out looking great, just needs to be presentable)? Any other advice would be great.

Is it painted already? If so, all you need is a scuff pad. I use the 3M red one for prep. You can go all the way down to 600 grit if you want, but keep in mind, the coarser the grit, the better the odds a scratch will show. If it's not painted or in primer, you'll want to go closer to 600 grit and block it. Blocking is a fine art in and of itself to achieve a level surface, if you're willing to go to that level. I can give you more detail on that later if needed. Anyways, prep it, and clean it with alcohol or acetone. Use a lint free cloth to wipe it off. Prep is extremely important. Now lay down your base coat. I recommend not using Duplicolor. They have a nice tip, but I've had issues in the past with their rattle cans. Pick your poison on this one if you're going for a rattle can. HVLP gun is the best, but probably not on your list. Lay down enough to get the paint to flow, but not to run. If it does run, you'll need to block sand. Since you want flat black you probably won't need clear or to color sand. If you do opt to get a little fancy I can elaborate further.

Alright thanks. Yea its already painted. I think its dark shadow gray but it is painted. Like I said I just want it to be somewhat presentable. This is not a show car by any means haha. I'm just trying to get everything I want on this thing and then I'll get it painted when I stop DD it.
