99-04 gt questions

edit, if you're just now seeing this thread, and wouldn't mind helping/offering advice, just skip to the last page

I'm in the market for a 99-04 gt, im looking to pick it up this spring ideally. I don't want one thats in perfect condition, just runs great/wont have any problems. I'm looking to get a sort of bang for buck deal, because the less money i spend on the car, more money for some basic mods

in my area, (northern virginia or newport news va) ive seen some good looking stangs with not too high of mileage go for 6-8k which is ideally where i'd like to be.

differences in the years mechanically are

the transmission switched in 01 or 02? i think

a couple other things im forgetting?

all opinions / advice is appreciated

Just go for an 04 in either White, Black, or Crimson with the REAL 40th Anniv. Package with the beige stripes.

03 or 04 the only difference is 4r70 tranny in the 03 and 4r75 in the 04 htta even if you're going for an auto. So 03 or 04 gets my vote.

It's just cool. Nice little touches in the interior (special floor mats, head rests, interior plaque.)

If you can find Crimson, it was only available with the 40th Package.

Nothing special performance wise, and you would actually have a difficult time finding one with the package.

I would stick with 03-04 though.

IIRC, the ones with the package had special embroidery....I'll see if I can find a pic/confirmation

Edit: Here's the best picture I could find....

I think they were slightly more adjustable (I could be mistaken and the different headrest was part of the difference between base/premium GT.)

Not to mention the 40th Package had color matched, fold-able side mirrors, which are fuckin' baller.

Updated post....I might just be mistaken about the headrest, I do think the seats had a special stitching in them though.

I'm a bit of an obsessive collector and think things like that are really neat, just a preference.

I was heartbroken when I found out I didn't have a full 40th package.

yea my 03 has those headrest that can folf down halfway too instead of that smaller headrest. I think they were standard on the cobras I could be wrong though.

I wouldn't doubt it. I found some threads on other forums where people were swapping for a full "40th Anniv." interior. I think the Mach 1s got them as well..

Apparently they can flex a little better, but from what I read not enough for it to matter, heh

I just picked up an 04 40th GT in Redfire, and honestly I don't see a huge difference between my model and any other 03/04....I just have the badges/interior. I absolutely love the Redfire color and that's what sold me, oh and it had 10K miles on it haha. Anyways I don't really think 40th is worth it honestly if you're looking for bang for the buck!

Also forgot to mention, in hindsight I would've rather got a GT with performance mods already installed as I'm finding it expensive as I add them up haha (intake/exhaust/better wheels)

what do you all think would be a good deal ex 70k miles stock seems like good condition/no problems example for 6k

Sounds like a pretty good deal.

If I were you, I'd go for a more stock car. You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of modding yourself and making sure it's done to a standard you deem acceptable. I bought mine with the FR500 wheels, a cold-air kit and weld-in mufflers. That's about the extent I was okay with buying on a car.
