People w/ Vortech/Procharger, Need a picture

So I put on a couple different belts today. I had great luck with a Dayco Poly Rib, but I hit a deep puddle and it through my batterly light on real quick, then I noticed the belt was ripped alitle. Then 2 days later it tossed a rib.

So I bought a Dayco Poly Cog (they didnt have a poly rib) and it didnt like that, I guess it doesnt like the 90* angle cuts in the belt. So I bought a Dayco Poly Rib, It hit only 6psi, and it was screeching at WOT. I figured, bad belt. So I returned it.

Now, I bought a Gates Micro V belt. First time it hit like 9psi. Then it only hit 5-6 and it was screeching at WOT. So, Ive narrowed it down to 2 things.

1 - A bad tensioner pulley, although I JUST put one on like 2 weeks ago.
2 - Its rubbing on the Alternator spacer.

So I need a picture of how close the belt is to the spacer in the alternator. Mine is pretty damn close. And It doesnt screech until I go WOT, not 1/2, not 3/4. So Im wondering if theres some flex?? Idk.... heres my pictures

Reps to whoever has pics!!

Im probably just going to return my tensioner, and grind down the spacer regardless. But, Id like to see how close other peoples are.

Dude I know. Its fucking rediculous. I considered it, but Id hate to just give up because of belt issues. I know I can fix it. I do understand running such a small pulley makes the chance of slip a lot higher. I want to go with a better intercooler and 3.12 pulley. But the re-tune price kills me.

I just looked at mine and mine is actually the same distance as yours. I measured it and its .30mm from touching the belt. If your belt is tight enough it wouldnt hit the spacer.

It could be 1 of two things. 1) your belt over stretched, but you replaced it. or 2) your tentioner is old and needs to be replaced. It may not be able to hold that tension at 5k anymore which is causing the slip. I'd try replacing the tentioner first and see what happens since they are pretty cheap.

Since it sounds like your getting ribs cut off look at the power steering res bracket. I know mine was real close and that is a long stretch of belt that if any vibration in it will start cutting the belt

I'm running a ProCharger and I don't have an altenator spacer like that. My spacer is the ProCharger idler pulley itself. My belt doesn't go anywhere near the power steering bracket either. It is at least 3/4" away. I was having trouble with belt squeal when the motor was cold. It went away when the motor warmed up. Spraying belt dressing on it made it much, much worse. I noticed the tensioner was moving in and out as I worked the throttle from under the hood. It shouldn't do that. I replaced the tensioner with one from Autozone and the problem is fixed. It is rock solid, not moving at all when I work the throttle. My belt is now tight enough that if I strum the section between the altenator and power steering pump it sounds like a bass guitar string. I'm using the 1080K6 Autozone belt.

Note: I had to grind the belt guard off the new idler pulley. My original pulley didn't have one and it was hitting the ProCharger bracket. Also, I was having a lot of problems with shredding belts for a while. It was my pulley alignment.

procharger doesnt have that..just get a procharger bracket and headunit bro!!! everything else will work lol...can u change that pulley to a lil smaller one? why not run a reichard racing ultra grip pulley if your slipping. but yea i could see it hitting that and it holding against it a little and slipping or do a reichard racing a/c delete with manual tensioner bracket they have

Sounds pricey lol. Honestly I had best luck with dayco poly rib and drive rite belts. Im gonna go back to a drive rite.

Will to big of a belt cause that screech too? It seems like it always does that with a gates micro belt

Okay I got it... I know I dont need 8 Rib because Ive been hitting 9-10psi. Just run into little issues because my dumb ass likes to change things when their working fine lol.

Took the spacer out, grinded it down, put a washer between the bracket and timing cover where the AC silencer hooks on, and used my old Drive Rite belt. That belt is the best one Ive ever used. It never stretched, always was reliable. Thats what Ill be getting all the time. The only one that I liked too, was the Dayco Poly Rib. I might try that again eventually. Not til after track season. I dont want ANY more issues lol.

Heres some pics, looks hacked but I was losing my patience. I put on 4 belts since Friday night, and a new tensioner lol.

Behind it is my Drive Rite belt, and the Gatorback belt. My car never liked a belt that wasnt just straight groves. Anything with angle cuts, it didnt not work.

I've been thinking about your problem. I think its pulley alignment. A bigger belt squeals. A tight belt shreds. Why? Perhaps its because the tight belt can't jump ribs. That washer between the bracket and timing cover might get your pulleys better aligned. That was part of my problem. To align the supercharger pulley with the altenator pulley, I used a straight edge (completely flat metal ruler). I layed it flat across the altenator pulley and compared it to the supercharger pulley. When I first did it I found the supercharger bracket was on crooked. That made the pulley crooked. It was lined up on the side closest to the altenator but off almost one rib on the far side.

P.S. Does your waterpump pulley have a lip on it? I'd never be able to get a belt over it. It's too tight. My Miezere idler pulley is smooth. My belt is also tight enough that I don't think I could slip it over the altenator pulley either. I have to slip mine over the smooth tensioner pulley to get it on (the belt guard has been removed).

My gatorback belt rubbed on the spacer for a little bit until the belt itself was worn down...but it's still working like the day i installed it. Sorry about your luck man!
