New guy with issues.
Hi, first of all I want to introduce myself. I'm 21 and in the Navy, stationed in California. Recently I raced a Mach 1 on the back roads, I hooked hard and beat him. Only problem is afterwards I noticed a ticking sound coming from my rear, mainly the right side I believe. At first it would only make it when I was accelerating or turning to the right, but after a week it's got a little louder and happens when just driving straight. I thought it might have been the diff, so I jacked up the car and took the cover off.... everything looked fine, granted I'm not an expert. While the car was on the lift I checked around thinking it might have been something scraping against a rotating assembly but nothing looks scraped. Any ideas would be great so I had a better clue on what to check before I give up and go to a garage.

Yep, I'm an electrician on F-18C. I thought I might have messed up the clutch pack, but wouldn't I have been able to see something when I opened the diff?

nah you wouldn't see it unless you took it apart.
the diff is behind the ring and pinion. just because it's loose doesn't mean it fell out of the diff into the casing. I would get it checked out soon though before you destroy your gears. I can recommend a GREAT ( I wouldn't trust my car with any other shop in San Diego personally) shop but it's down in San Diego. www.dprsocal.com

Well I'm not really worried about destroying my gears because I have a friend that's trying to get rid of a set of 3.73s that he bought for his GT, then traded it in for a Cobra. Any chance it's a wheel bearing?

This event never happened because the Mach could never loose.
Nice kill. You definitely had to be on top of your game because you are giving up some hp to the Mach. Based on your account and description, I would say it is diff related. I don't believe you would have hurt an bearing but could have definitely have a clutch pack issue. The clutch packs in my trac lok are wasted from high rpm launches on slicks. They make noise if you are coasting and turn the wheel one way or the other. I also have one tire fire. That will be remedied this weekend. Like was mentioned above, removing the cover is not going to tell you anything because the clutch packs are compressed behind the S spring in the differential. You probably should have it checked out. A rebuild kit is not expensive and trac lok rebuild is not hard to do if you have access to basic tools and a bench.

Yeah, the Mach over launched and lost traction... He was starting to catch up quickly by the 1/4 marker though, only got him by a car. So what's all involved in rebuilding my Trac-Loc? Does the whole unit have to come out of the car? I mean I'm not really scared about getting my hands dirty, I put my Spec stage 2 in the driveway.
