Supercharger on stock engine
Hi guys,...quick question here:
I want to put a spercharger (probaly a vortec system) in my 2000 GT. The motor is completley stock. Is there anything that needs to be done to the engine in perticular?...Or can I keep everything like it is and just add on the supercharger?. I dont plan on racing it or anything just want it for a some more power, so I dont need any rediculous amount of boost. Just asking for some suggestions. Thanx

You should be able to handle 400 horses on a stock engine.
The vortech and paxton only offer up 'Bout 100 hp increase unless You get the "Aftercooler" Which adds another 30 or so But You'd still be under the 400 hp thresh hold which is considered Safe for the 4.6 V8 Remember though that any other mods You've done will multiply The horses Like exhuast Cams heads etc. So keep that in mind. -Joshua

If you run lower than 10 PSI of boost and have it dyno tuned you should not have any problems what so ever!

im pretty sure he meant 400rwhp. you should be fine just adding a blower as long as you get a good tune. its all in the tune and will be fine at those power levels

yup 400rwhp, don't go over 10lbs of boost and you should be fine. don't forget a good tune. that may be the most important thing. i'm probably going to get a longblock first, then the blower. motor's at 99k miles now and i'd rather have a brand new motor with a forged bottom end ready for boost than to go f/i on the stock motor then blow it up. just trying to be smart about it.

ive seen them make 450-500 rwhp - problem is that it doesnt last long - 380-400- sometimes 420 intercooled is a good place to be, its really not power you need to worry about however - its rpms and detonation... rpms kill rods with added power and detonation kills stock heads with FI - its all in the tune

Those are just supporting mods.. If you are putting more air into the motor you should be allowing it to flow out better also.. These gains will be small though.. haha a exhaust is not going to give you 40hp..

Ok Vortech claims to push your flywheel hp from 260 to 364 and to just over 400 with the aftercooler.
A good X-Pipe with some packs or flows Should get You another 25 hp at least on a supercharged engine Where as on a stock engine they will only gain 9-12 hp Cams on a supercharged (This really depends on the Charger and how much boost You run) engine can get You another 60-100hp And with a stock engine You usually only see 20-50 hp increase So with a Good tune If You have Cams and exhaust and the aftercooler You should be around 450-500 flywheel hp (Depending on how aggressive Your cams are and how aggressive the tune is) Which Is around 370-415 Rear Wheel Hp (Which is also depend on whether You have standard or automatic)!

You can see 400rwhp with just headers, midpipe, catback, plenum, TB, and 10 pounds of boost with the right tune...Cams just make it that much easier to make the power you want...
As long as the tuner is good they can make the car very safe with 400rwhp on the stock internals... |
