Nitrous

So I have been kicking around the idea of getting nitrous I want to run a 75 shot. My questions are what are the cons of nitrous? and I see all this talk about using window switches and wot can someone inlighten me on the purpose of a window switch and wot? thanks

Wide Open Throttle switch means it sprays when you go WOT

window switch means you set the rpm range in which you want it to spray...3,000-6,000 rpm's for example.

cons are getting the bottle refilled.

Ok I really appreciate the info another question can I just have it on a button so I can push it when I want it or is that bad news? O and I heard something about dyno tuning is a must and you have to retard the timing but doing that makes them doggy when not running the nitrous is there any truth behind that?

you can spray a 100 shot no problem on the stock tune. that means stock timing and no dyno tune required.

just get a set of ngk tr6 spark plugs (one step colder).

i wouldn't run the kit on a button. let it bog or hit the limiter just one time and intake could very well go kaboom

a window switch is almost a necessity with nitrous. i will never again run a kit without one. i had that problem with bouncing off the rev limiter while spraying once and the outcome wasnt so good.

so aside from a basic kit, you really should look into buying a window switch a bottle warmer and depending on where you mount the bottle you will want a safety blow-down tube (if its behind the front seats) or a remote bottle opener (if its in the trunk) it adds up once you start buying the extras, thats the biggest down side IMO.

Ok so if I run a window switch does that mean every time I hit those rpm's it's going to go off or can it be put on a arming switch so it only goes off when armed and hits the right rpm?

a basic kit will come with an on/off (or arming) switch and will usually have a wide-open-throttle switch (My ZEX kit came with those 2 things) so you will only be juicing when the system is armed and you mash down the gas pedal. with a window switch, you still have to be wide-open throttle but in a certain RPM range. i have my junk set-up for 3500-6500RPM using a ZEX window switch.

ZEX? Traction Control Window Switch

Just an FYI I think I spent about $1100 for everything I purchased for my nitrous setup.

You also will want a fuel pressure safety switch to turn the system off if your fuel pressure drops below 38 psi, or you can spend another $800 and get a stand alone fuel system.

I think you need to spend some serious time researching some of the sticky posts on nitrous.

The push button arming switch is not a good idea, lots of engines blown up using the push button. There are several progressive controllers available for use with nitrous. It all depends on how safe you want it to be and how much you want to spend.
