Procharger Install Prep

Hi all,

So I took my Mustang to Evolution Auto Care for them to make sure I have everything I needed for my Procharger install on my 01 GT Convertible.

They said the blower looked pretty good, and I have everything I needed for them to put it on; however, they suggested I replace the Harmonic Balancer since mine was showing a lil wear on the rubber.

I did a little research and the Powerbond SFI seems like a good brand, but am unsure as to what size I need.

According to Innovators West the stock size is 6.5".

For reference: A 10% overdrive pulley is 7.25" and a 15% overdrive pulley is 7.5". A 10% underdrive pulley is 5.875".

What should I expect to spend on a new one? I take it there's no way to replace just the rubber?

I had to replace my crank pulley because the previous owner had installed underdrive pulleys. I think I paid $250 at a dealership. What are your plans? How much boost are you planning on running this year? Do you intend to add more boost later? If so it might be better to get the $440 Innovative West 10% overdrive crank pulley. It allows you to generate more boost with larger supercharger pulleys. But if you're running a stock motor it might be too much right now.

For example, a P1SC generates approximately 12 psi witn a 3.4" pulley and a stock crank. You can get the same thing with a 3.85" pulley (normally an 8 psi pulley) and a 10% overdrive crank pulley. Both spin the blower at 46,000 rpms at 6000 engine rpms. (P1SC max blower rpms is 62,000.) There is a lot less risk of belt slippage with a 3.85" pulley.

The pulley has to be a 3.60, I'm guessing 6-8psi? I don't really want to go crazy on a stock block and I don't have any plans to upgrade the internals, but I do have the 42 injectors and high flow pump just in case I change my mind.

If your P1SC pulley is 3.6" then you will most likely be making around 10 psi. I'm making 9 psi with a 3.7" pulley. You would not want to run that supercharger pulley on a stock motor with an overdrive pulley.

Just going to throw this out there-
If you step up to a larger crank pulley, you may want a larger alternator pulley. Some people go with a much larger crank pulley w/o changing the alternator, and then wonder why they're frying alternators left and right.

I do run a system in the car... got a capaciter for 2 10's and 4/2 chan amps for all door speakers... there's still prob a large draw on the alternator

Think I should stick with the stock size pulley?

It not so much about the draw as the physical constraints of the alternator itself. Much like your engine there's a certain RPM limit before damage starts occuring.

If you are inclined to keep it at the factory RPM, make sure the ratio of your crank pulley to alternator pulley stays the same.

Ex; stock is 4" crank, 2" alternator, and you go to a 6" crank. You'll want a 3" alternator pulley to compensate for the size change.

Keep it at the same ratio, got it... are they 2:1 or was that just you using that as an example?

That was just an example the crank pulley is 6.5". I don't know what the altenator pulley is.

You've got to do all the mathematizing yourself.
