Interesting serpentine belt
replaced my crappy 2 month old O'reilly alternator for another o'reilly alternator (lifetime warranty) and the battery yesterday morning, and noticed my belt looked a little weird... thinner than usual...
(that's the old belt inside the new belt cardboard, btw) ![]() ![]() ![]() A whole line of those grooves was somehow torn off the side of the belt. I can imagine how the line was cut, but when I installed the first alternator, I made sure that the belt was installed properly and aligned. So what exactly could have caused it to shift to the point where a line of grooves were cut off? Perhaps it was when I floored it from a slow speed and the auto shifted into the next gear at 6K, which is a tiny bit past the red line? IDK. Either way, I bought a new belt.

That can happen just when the belt starts getting old. I've seen it before. Is that a Gatorback belt? Those are usually pretty good. I'd check your pullies for anything that looks bad.

Not sure what belt it is, it was on the car when I bought it used. Probably a gatorback. I saw no markings, but everyone who has seen it in person thinks it is.
I replaced it with a Gates belt. My dad kept insisting that I reuse that belt. I'd rather not, it used to slip so much when I hit a tiny puddle even before it was cut to shit.

Could have just been a defect in a belt.
