quick borla stingers s type exhaust question.

I've got a BBK offroad H pipe, BBK longtubes, and Borla Stingers (s type) catback .

I get a really loud rattle/shitty noise between 2500-3500 rpm's that I can't seem to get to go away. I thought it would go away by itself and it was just the exhaust working itself in, but it isn't. Those 4" tips have already melted away a piece of the gas tank plastic (haha) -- I'm just curious if anyone thinks this is a fitment issue, or if this is a known issue with the Borla's or what I can check out before just straight up buying a new catback.

I had the same issue. Started out with a Magnaflow catted X on the car and Flowmasters, went to a BBK offroad X, fine for a while. Then it started rattling really bad when I'd let off the gas from high RPMs. Figured it was my Flowmasters rusting out on the inside, the baffling.

So, randomly a flange just slipped over the flare at the passenger side of the BBK offroad X this August. I got sick of both, put out $550+ for Borla Stingers. Decided to have the flange of the BBK offroad X put back over it, welded in place, just to give it another chance, fine for like 5 days. Then a horrible rattle. Had it adjusted at the shop, fine for 10 or less days, fucking horrible rattle twice as worse as before.

So in short, I bought another Magnaflow catted X, and I don't want anymore BBK products. The rattling is a leak with the mid pipe. I'm very familiar with it and absolutely hate it. Mine came at like ~1,800 RPM I'd guess, so it was embarrassing to drive through any city area. It's not the Borlas unless there was an install error, mine are perfect. It was the BBK X pipe for me.

Odd. I had a BBK h pipe in there before w/ flowmasters and never had an issue.

That would make sense though. I will try swapping in my prev H pipe and see what happens. I appreciate it

Go over the connections of the Stingers one more time, and check the adjustment of the H pipe before swapping it. If you've scraped anywhere hard enough, there's a possibility that your BBK H is now out of round at the flare, causing the rattling leak. Mine is horribly out of round. Pretty much junk unless anyone feels like repairing it.

No way it could be the long tubes right?

I don't really trust BBK products anymore, but I highly doubt it'd be the long tubes. The rattling leak would probably be at a much lower RPM if it were that close to the headers or the actual headers. Hotter gasses, moving faster at that point.

Who installed them though? Which gaskets were used?

This is just my opinion but I think the H midpipe with the str8 through type muffler is whats causing the sound. If you couple that midpipe with a chamber style muffler I think it will go away somewhat. Just like a o/r x with a chambered muffler has that rattly sound around the same rpm range. I had that sound with my o/r x and 10 series flows but when I added high flow cats that sound cleaned up around those rpm's and altogether period to be honest. So try putting some hi flo cats into your setup.

Good idea, but I never had that problem at WOT with my X pipe and Flows. It was just when I let off. Not bad at all in this video.

I never resall hearing it myself at WOT but when cruizing around town and what not being easy on the gas I use to hear it from like 2100rpm up close to 2700rpm but it smoothe out after that. But after I added the cats I dont hear it when im cruizing now at those rpm's.

The sound that's coming from mine is loud as hell. I mean -- piss off ANYONE within a mile LOUD. It's only when I'm partial throttle-WOT (lasts a lot less for WOT because it takes less time to go through the RPM range) from 2500-3500. After 3500 it's gone. But it's loud as HELL when it's there.

Not a drone... just LOUD LOUD LOUD, pretty bad. We'll have to check out the fitment and make sure there's no leaks.

thats pretty much any o/r mid pipe. especially with an x pipe. its just something to get use to. i went from chambered to straight through and it got louder kinda like your saying. its about like it sounded with just the o/r x before i put the headers on.

Mine is as loud but not as raspy through the entire RPM range.. but it's WAY louder than that at 2500-3500.

I had a BBK offroad H pipe before.. all I did was get a new one and then swapped borla's in from flowmasters. I am well aware of what it is supposed to sound like -- and not even close to that

Post is worthless without video. I'll try to grab one later.

i know, thats why i was saying the midpipe sounds alittle different with the straight through muffler over the chambered.
