O2 Sensor HELP

OK so here's the deal. I installed some new longtubes on the car, (pacesetters, they are HORRIBLE, dont buy em, its to late for me though.) And the o2 sensor bung on the driver side header is pointed right at the spring on the transmission that changes gears(i have an automatic, not sure of the name of that part)
So, basically i cant plug in my front 2 o2 sensors. It is causing me to get HORRIBLE gas mileage, so i was wondering if i could lengthen the front o2 wires long enough to reach the 2 rear 02 bungs, i know the reading then wouldnt be as accurate, but at least it would be reading something?

I don't see why making the wires longer would affect anything lol, what are you doing for the mean time just have the O2 bung plugged? If your car is running like ass and you can't wait to buy a part to extend it go buy the appropriate size wire and lengthen the wires yourself, make it clean with some heat shrink. I've done it on a friends car and it worked fine.

I wasnt worried about the length of the wires so much as compared to the position of the front o2 sensors. IE being in the rear o2 sensor bungs.
Yea, right now they are just unplugged, and running like ass is an understatement. Getting half my normal gas mileage. My plan is to get up early in the morning and extend the front o2 sensor wires so they will reach to where i can plug em in and see how it works.

LMAO!! wait let me get this right. you are driving your car with no O2 sensor hooked up?!...... not a great idea. mine wont even run with them un hooked. nor would i run it with them unhooked. i would be afraid of leaning out or something. i think your trying to explain the O2 sensor is not possible to use due to its position in relation to the trans? pics? if that is the case how would long wires help? if its simply a wire issue you can buy extensions on summit for 40 dollars made by BBK. (i just bought some for my LT install)

The issue isn't with the wiring, it's with the placement of the O2 in the stream. Go to a muffler shop and have them weld in some new O2 bungs closer to the front where you won't have interference from the trans and then plug the old bungs. You'll still either need to extend the O2 wiring to reach the bungs on long tubes or buy extenders. This isn't the end of the world, it's simply a hill to climb. Easy fix.

Running without your upstream HOS's isn't harmful to the engine. It just leaves the computer in "open loop" which uses fueling tables to control fueling, rather than using HOS feedback. The car runs that way every time you start it up cold anyways.

Unfortunately open loop isn't the most accurate. It's usually excessively rich, which means your fuel economy will plummet. Also if you have cats, prolonged rich mixture can cause overheating and failure.

Placing the sensors in the rear ports is better than nothing, but it's not the right way. Placing them too far back delays the closed loop process which can cause issues. The proper way is what bulloch outlined above, get them as close to the factory location as possible. It's nothing an exhaust shop can't handle in 15min.

If the sensors are placed in the rear ports, it's not the end of the world. But if that location is after any installed cat, then you have a problem...
