tick tick boom

I'm a newb on here, have a question and would like some suggestions

I have a 04 Mustang GT, AODE, P-1SC 8#, MAFia, 42# injectors, SVT focus pump

Well i'm having a problem...think it chewed a piston ring...any tricks to getting the vibration dampener center nut off? I'm going to try an impact wrench tomorrow, just curious if anyone has any other ideas since its an auto.

Also, Since i probably will have to re-build this motor any ideas on what parts i should use? I'm on a tight budget, so its gotta be fairly cheap. Other idea was to find a used motor, any good places to look besides this forum and ebay?

Thanks for the help,
Bob

i bought a used motor from worldautoparts.com and im happy with it although the first one they sent me was a bad motor but this one runs great. 11000 mile motor for $2,850 was broke so they sent me a 15000mile motor and i made them give me a $300 discount because it had to be installed again. They give you a 90 day warranty on used motors.

An impact will work if you can fit the gun in there. I just put mine in gear and had to use a lil elbow grease..

unfortunatly i cant put it in gear....car is an auto. Impact wrench wasnt strong enough, guess its back to the drawing board. Anyone know any way to keep the crank from moving on an auto?

Its going to take 2 people, but this is how I used to do it on my old Chevy's.

I'm guessing the engine is still in the car. Your going to have to take off the dust sheid where the engine bolts to the tranny. Might even need to take the starter off.

Once thats done have a friend with a really big flat head screw driver put the screw driver into one of the fly wheel teeth. Get it in a place where he can pry against the engine block or tranny bell housing to prevent the engine from turning over when you take the bolt out.

If this makes sense give it a shot and let me know if it worked for ya.

Good luck,
Chris

good idea DrHolliday...luckily i was able to keep messing with the impact gun and got it off

If the block isnt messed up, think i might just do a rebuild kit....should i just get a rebuild kit from autozone? Or how much more would it be to get forged internals?

Just go to a supply house and get a heavy duty strap wrench- works likes a charm. Just put it on the outside of he balancer and have somone hold it for you. You may have to use a cheater bar.

Whoops...........nevermind- I didn't read down far enough to see you got it off already.

I finally got the drivers side head off tonight...yeah definatly not pretty. Talk about a pain in the *** working on this car. After looking at everything, i now definatly have to pull the enigne, hone it, and replace a few pistons. Where should i go from here? Just go buy a few pistons and fix everything? Keep in mind, fairly limited budget.

Also, since its apart....anyone have some cheap headers?

upon readin again, i realised you allready have a lot of mods. id say def go forged rods and pistons. if your crank is okay, use it. the cast crank will hold over 600 hp. if you put stock stuff back in there your gonna eventually run into teh same problem broker ringlands. so def go forged and that means you can turn the boost up later on down the road

i'd love to go forged...at the same time i'd love to put cams in it and headers.....really sucks getting to this point and not having the cash to change things out.

Can anyone come up with a "grocerry list" of what i need...or kits...prices would be nice also but dont go out of your way, unless your bored

So far this is what i can think of
Atleast 2 pistons
Head gasket
Timing cover gasket
Intake manifold gasket
EGR gasket
Exhaust gasket
Head bolts
Resurface/replace head
Hone cylinders
Rings??? not sure what route to take on that after honing
No clue yet on condition of rods and crank

What else am i missing?

this would be a great setup and very strong

manley rods and manley pistons.... http://www.vtengines.com/store/index...oducts_id=1378

youll need to have your block bored out .020 to make sure evrything is smooth in the bores. you want the rings to seal up tightly. bore size 3.572''

That manley kit is a great kit! i wouldnt recomend just doing 2 pistons. Do it right the first time. Its going to cost more and take a little more time.. But you are going to regret not doing it.

+1 If you gange one piston change all 8.

If you can go without the car until you have enough money for forged I'd just wait a save up a bit more. 1,200 plus the price of a heads up gasket kit and you should be good. Then factor in the cost of some one boring it out .020 over. I'd also take a look at the crank journals to make sure they aren't messed up.

yeah and if they are screwed another cast gt crank will sufice just fine unless you want to go to a forged cobra crank. but realise the gt crank will handle aorund 600 hp
