Knock Knock

So... it's been a while since I've driven my 2000 much. So I go out today and drive it, and it's fine.

I don't think I have an exhaust leak and I'm not sure about the manifold because, it behaves fine in normal weather, but when it's hotter out, it makes a KNOCKING sound, not a sputtering. Just a knocking.

It runs fine, very responsive, no smells or odors, no overheating. But it knocks.

I need to drive it 115 miles today for the weekend on work, do you guys think it'll be okay? Rough guess? I'm trying to have someone help me sway my opinion on weather or not I'll be okay to drive it.

Anyone?

try 91-92 octane gas? If it is really knocking you wont want to drive it 115 miles.

Does it make the knock if you let the engine get hot? Or only on hot days?

I'm just wondering if you might have a flattened rod bearing that makes noise when the engine gets hot enough to thin the oil out more.

It might be the fuel, but I'm not sure. I would describe an ignition knock as more of a pinging noise.

It only happens after the engine is hot, quicker on hot days. It doesnt happen if the engine stays cool.
